- This goes to prove many things i stated ... certain carrier builds even though they are same name builds and YADA, YADA, YADA ..... remember like i stated certain carriers like ROGERS = Quality and time and effort into making sure the OS is the best they can provide for their customers.
This OS is far superior then the Asian one..... don't ask me why as you may get an EAR full....
Again, show me proof, not just subjective ideas. Have you done a binary delta on the code? That would be a good start. It would tell you if anything changed (even if the release # was the same).Last edited by fast lane; 07-06-09 at 01:22 PM.
07-06-09 01:14 PMLike 0 - I just updated the to the new Rogers OS (I'm on Rogers, so I didn't delete the vendor file). One thing I can attest to is a huge memory jump. I've always had memory problems (I think mostly because I've got a few apps on it, but not nearly as many as my wife has on her iPhone...that's one area that the Bold falls short in), but after installing the new OS a few hours ago, I saw my memory jump from 19 to 28 MB (although it fell to 26.5 very shortly). Still, on the last build I had (I think it was .262?), it would go from 19 to about 9 MB in less than a day, so this seems to be a big improvement.07-06-09 04:58 PMLike 0

I'll give it ONE more shot and let you know. I appreciate your help, but everything you've suggested, I've already done more than once.07-06-09 09:00 PMLike 0 - Upgraded to .282 from the Vodaphone .266 build. Overall, there is a marked improvement in scrolling speed. Media player also appears to be more stable as I no longer experience the dreaded reboot when I skip media files. There also appears to be less memory leak. I used to run 30 mb free memory after a battery pull with .266 but I'm now at 45 - 48 mb. Battery life also appears to be marginally better than .266.07-06-09 09:13 PMLike 0

OK, I did it for the 4th time (2nd time to try the Rogers version). Only difference is that I used BBSAK and I didn't have my 8GB media card installed. This time it went well... BUT after inserting (the right way) the media card, it takes FOREVER for it to rescan the card (.247 and .266 don't take a fraction as long!). The time to display pictures is worse than watching paint drying on a wall and just about a show stopper. Also, in the motel room I'm in, I can tell you that .266 was significantly better with the signal (reception not as good as .266). I made an outline on the desk to be certain the location was the same. The only benefit that I can honestly see .282 has over .247 or .266 is the fact that an AT&T user can switch between 2G and 3G and that's all.
I'll try it outside the hotel this week to see how it does, however, I do suspect I'll change back to .266 in a day or two. Sorry!07-07-09 12:43 AMLike 0 - Complete list here:

In short, the vast majority of the difference is that certain language resources appear only in one release or the other. For example:

The only files that appear in both releases where the file contents differ are as follows:
Files 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_CSL/PkgDBCache.xml and 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_Rogers/PkgDBCache.xml differ
Files 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_CSL/UMTS/rim9000.sfi and 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_Rogers/UMTS/rim9000.sfi differ
Files 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_CSL/specification.pkg and 9000-v4.6.0.282_P4.0.0.235_Rogers/specification.pkg differ
The CSL version of rim9000.sfi is 13289760 bytes and the Rogers version is 17819088 bytes. That seems like a pretty significant difference. So while all of the Java-based packages are essentially the same, maybe the difference in the .sfi file accounts for the different behaviors that people are observing. Anyone know exactly what is in the .sfi file?
I haven't installed the Rogers build yet myself -- this was an exercise to figure out whether or not I should bother. :>07-07-09 09:46 AMLike 0 - installed Rogers .282 last night. Runs well. Browser is noticably quicker. (jumped from .247) pics do load faster. maybe it is that they're cached and don't actually load quicker because the first time loading took forever--one pic at a time. every time after that was really fast.07-07-09 10:34 AMLike 0

I've had about all the fun I can handle from one OS, namely BOTH versions of .282 Like I said before, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THAT ARE ON .282 AND ARE HAPPY! After having done this FOUR TIMES, that's it! It's enough to make me go BUY A IPHONE! Between the poor RF signal reception to the slow show time for pictures, I'M HAPPILY BACK ON .266 AND VERY HAPPY!!! Why do we all beat ourselves to death trying to get the very latest operating systems anyway? My boss has a Bold and is on the original AT&T with the original operating system and raves about his Bold ALL THE TIME! This may have been the last update that I do for a long time (and it's really the first that I was NOT HAPPY WITH)... I've got work to do, a family and a LIFE! What am I doing this all for? Am I NUTS? (Please don't answer that!!!) Hey folks, the Bold is a GREAT phone and it's hard to improve on that!! I think I'll just enjoy it for a while and use the spare time that I'm not using to upgrade OS and have a beer, or maybe a LOT OF BEERS!! Good evening!07-07-09 03:23 PMLike 0 - If this is true, then why does the Escalating volume for an alarm work on the CSL release, but not on the Rogers release? It can't be hardware, as it works on one, and not the other.
This is after several wipes, and with/without 3rd party applications installed. Either way, I've found myself back at .266, yet again.
Everything else about this release is great, but I depend on the alarm for home, and travel purposes.07-07-09 06:28 PMLike 0 -

Good evening!07-07-09 06:36 PMLike 0 - I noticed this a little as well, but i still can hear people really well at 90% volume level, just it does seem a little lower then .266, maybe this is a tweak to help in better reception as .282 has way better reception then .266 i find. I have not have had a lot of failed calls or dropped calls on .282 like maybe 5 so far sicne having it installed a few days back, but with .266 i would get at least 3-4 a day.07-07-09 09:23 PMLike 0
- I haven't had one dropped call since I got my Bold two weeks ago and that was/is .167/.282. As opposed to my iPhone which was every call.07-07-09 09:37 PMLike 0

With .266 it was bad, but with .282 it is awesome.07-07-09 09:48 PMLike 0 - And holding the menu key is now the app switcher

- A few people have complained about the volume being lower since they upgraded to .282. Are you guys referring to the loud speakers or the earpiece call volume?07-08-09 12:34 PMLike 0
- Well I was down loading the rogers .282 os last night, just when it was about to finish on my dm an error message came up "fatal error", etc.etc. Well I took my phone to att and rthey said my phone was dead and because I bought it an an authorized dealer my warranty was null. Now I'm hot so I called att and they helped me out. I get a warranty replecement phone and all is good. But man what a crock of **** this was @ the store. Soery just getting my 2 cents out there and look out for the rogers os down load.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com07-08-09 12:41 PMLike 0 - I find the volume to be the same like the .266 b4 I went to the .282. One thing<, I don't get an echo any more (some times i use to hear my echo on the .266) but i only used .282 for one day. so far so good07-08-09 12:55 PMLike 0
