What happens when that white sticker on the screw is damaged or removed and the phone is accepted as a return? I would think that would fall back on ATT for accepting the device?

If you told them over the phone that it was, then yes.

If you tell them that the sticker is there and is white, then no.

Expect to receive that phone back in about 10 business days or so with a letter saying that you will be billed in full for the new one that you received.

I've seen it happen. A friend of mine once dropped her phone in water, and
she was stupid enough to say over the phone that the sticker was white
    when it was really red.

Just because they don't ask you if the sticker is on the hex screw doesn't
mean that it's their fault. If it's not on there they're going to look at it and
    send it back.

So my advice is to be prepared to pay the $480 or so that you'll be charged
or come up with the best George Constanza lie ever.

And I swear, out of sheer coincidence, she also lives in Whittier.

Just say it was stolen. Problem solved. Lol. Not sure if that would work but that's my excuse when/if I need to replace a broken Bold.

Sorry brah, they reserve the right to charge you for the new one if the old one has been obviously tampered with, ie missing/broken warranty sticker

That's insurance. The topic is warranty. You could break the phone throwing at your girlfriend and they wouldn't care. They get the $125 deductible.
