I have been trying to upgrade my OS the latest one.

The updating process gets stuck on the "connect to device rom" part.

I have tried on two different computers and same problem.

I had the same problem loading the lastest Rogers OS and I called tech
support and he helped me upgrade my phone but sadly I forgot how he told me how to do it.

Don't use Desktop Manager to load the OS. Instead, use BBSAK to Backup, wipe and load the OS on your BlackBerry.

You can use DM for the backup part just as a precaution

i tried BBSAK. I wiped and tried to load the OS on the blackberry but it failed at connecting to ROM again. Now I get the Reload Software 507.
I have tried the Nuked guide and the other guides to load the software but it always fails at connecting to device rom.

    Help

I tried to wipe my phone with JL_cmder and it wiped fine. Tried to load the OS again but it still crashes at connecting to ROM. When I try reloading with DM it picks up my phone and PIN # but always crashes before anything will load.
I have tried everything . Now I wish I never wiped my phone with BBSAK in the first place. Now all I have is a brick. Unless somebody has something else to try to load the OS.
What does RIM use to load the OS onto the phones?

Did you try the 'loader.exe' (apploader)? If not, give it a try. It actually back up data and 3rd party apps and wipes the phone before loading the new OS.

The loader.exe can be found at the same location as vendor.xml file...

I'm not sure if it does backup your 3rd party applications.

You can try to install using CrackMem. Download and install CrackMem on your PC, run it and select the OS you've installed. Then, click on wipe device and write BrickMyPhone where it asks you to.

CrackMem does not backup your 3rd party applications either

ps: remember to delete the vendor file by going to c:\ program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

the computer reconizes my phone and the PIN # shows up.
The problem it the phone does not want to load anything onto it.
During the OS loading the programs always crash at the Connecting to Rom section and does not proceed and further.
I am kicking myself right now because there was nothing wrong with the phone before I just wanted a newer OS.

on one computer I am running XP and on the other I am running Windows 7 64 bit.
I had 4.6.282 Rogers on the BB and I was trying to load 5.0 onto the phone.
I have tried on both computers and I get the same problems.
I am not in a frenzy just yet but I want my phone back.
I have read a ton of "how to's" and I have followed them all.

Download and install CrackMem. Run it and connect your BB.

From its main window, select the OS you've installed on your PC and wish to upgrade to and click on wipe device.

If you still have a problem, then I would recommend doing the following:

disconnect your BB from PC and start from scratch

    1. uninstall OS
    2. go to the folder were you've found the vendor file and delete the folder '' apploader ''
    3. restart your PC
    4. install the desired OS 5 downloaded
    5. delete vendor file and then connect your BB
    6. run DM and backup your BB
    7. close DM
    8. run CrackMem
    9. select OS
    10. click on wipe device

I personally, recommend using the Windows XP machine with Desktop Manager 4.6 (never had any problems with it). I also recommend uninstalling and re-installing desktop manager software, if you already have it installed...Restart the PC. Once you have done these, follow the basic steps for upgrading the OS:-

    1. Download and install the preferred OS (remove all other os's from pc)
If you have the bb os installed, un-install and re-install it
    2. Delete vendor.xml file
    3. Connect bold to PC
    4. Run 'loader.exe' - This should initiate the os loading process.
    5. Restore data from backup

    Note: Loader.exe can be found at C:/Program Files/Common Files/ Research In Motion/Apploader

Hope it will work for you this time ... Good Luck

I don't know whether this will have any effect... But worth a try... Pull the battery out, while the device is switched ON, and put it back on after 5 mins. It will be great if you have the patience to leave the battery out for one hour or so... Put the battery back on and try to load the OS... See whether it helps...

I tried the over night battery pull.
    Same results.
I call my carrier and they are sending me another phone because it was still under warranty.
    I learned my lesson.
