    hi everyone,

i noticed that the time written in the emails (under the subject line) i receive is different than the time written in the messages folder. for example in the mesages folder the time says 8:02 am, but the time in the email says 7:48am. i also noticed that once a person sent me an email when we were sitting together, but i didnt receive it on my bb till 20 minutes later. any ideas on how to fix this or is this normal?? thanks for helping.

OK, the this is not really a BB issue. What you see in the subject line is the time it was received on your device. Just like in Outlook/Thunderbird it shows the time the client (Software/Device) received it.

The time you see in the message is the time it was SENT by the other person.

If you look at email headers in a client program, it looks like this:
    Delivered-To: **my email address hidden**

The time stamp in my Outlook client says it was received at 8:38:05am, but in the message it shows it was sent @ 08:37:26. The difference is the time it took to process through all the servers.

People are so used to email being INSTANT, but, it's not always. When you send an email, your BB, or your Computer has to relay it to an SMTP server. That SMTP server then has to look up the address for the receiving server and send it to it. 75% of the time (or more these days) it goes through on the first try and it's in your mailbox within a minute.

However, if the receiving server (Your email server, say Gmail) is busy (they can only handle so many connections), then the sending server takes the email, drops it into a retry queue, and moves on to sending the next outbound email it has.

Now, the resend Queue can be set anywhere form 5 minutes, to 60 minutes before it tries again. The industry standard is usually between 15 to 30 minutes. And, if it does not go that time, it goes back into the resend queue for another period of time. Until the time out is reached. I have our mail server here set to retry every 30 minutes for 12 hours then consider the message as non-deliverable and then to drop it and tell the user (Send a NDR - Non-Delivery Report).

Relaying through BIS to the BlackBerry devices can take a little longer. But, honestly, I notice emails show up on my BB about the same time they do in my Gmail inbox. However, I do see a lot of 30 to 90 minute delays on emails coming into my gmail (Web, outlook or BB). I guess it's just Gmail being so busy.

So, there is really nothing WRONG with the delay, or the timestamps to fix.

    It's just how email works.
