But is there a way to reassign the mute button? Its a pain to hit everytime I want to go in and out of standby.

I do not believe this is possible. Have you searched in the Bold threads? I am sure someone has a solution for this. there are a lot of Bold users
while in the call, press the blackberry button and select mute. other than that, i dont think so, sorry
I hate that too! There is no other way that I know of :(

Ugh. Im having the same problem. I looked every where and couldnt find anything
There is a program calling auto standby that will do it after your phone has been inactive for a certain amount of time
what is the difference between standby and lock? sorry for the dumb question
Lock only does what its name implies -- it locks the keyboard and side buttons.
This program is very customizable. I highly recommend it. My battery life is much better going into standby automatically when I'm not using the phone. It doesn't solve the problem of reassigning the mute/standby key, but this is a good compromise.
I have autostandby! It's a great program, worth the money. But just hitting the key to get outta standby is horrible. It's extremely awkward to hit.
I dl autostandby, its good ,I thought it was free

ehhh, I'll pass on that app. They could at least give a one or 2 day trial.
(in case they are reading :p)
I have auto standby as well, but I've been on and off with it. Sometimes I'll turn it off and just lock my phone. The mute/standby key doesn't protrude enough to push it comfortably. It would be very wise to make it so you could map it to a convenience key. I use the left key for lock, since it's so easy and quick to press it and drop in my pocket. I wish locking it did the same thing as standby...
Rolfyto did you know that pressing and holding the A key will lock the device?
Lol, yes. I just prefer to have it on the convenience key. I've been doing that for 3 years now.
