I would like to make my OS generic without the carrier logo (like AT&T on the startup screen or when you start browser).
How do I do that?
Thanks.

Yes, it is called de-branding and quite risky to do.

The start-up logo is in hardware; it's not part of your OS. As the poster above noted, it can be done through the process of de-branding, which is not the same as unlocking and isn't done by most unlockers as far as I can tell by reading their posts.
and as of right now you cannot de-brand a 9700 the software (which is illegal) is not out there
On older BB's it's quiet simple...
But, on 9700 not yet...
You can always wipe you phone or brick the phone... That won't get you a splash screen...

just curious why is it illegal? if you pay your bill and actually own your phone why couldnt you do it, i beileve you i just dont get why its illegall. heck if i pay for a phone i should get to do what ever i want with it even destroy it if i want.......but i love my blackberry too much to want to hurt her :)
The software used to de-brand a phone is the illegal part. It is proprietary RIM software for internal use only.
ahh ok that makes sense, i cant stand when company try to tell you what you can and cant do with things you already paid for thats why i was confused lol
Why can't someone else design some non-proprietary software that would access the JVM like the MFI? Is that possible?

In theory some one could, but it would not be an easy task at all.
I have seen this question a lot lately, and has been mentioned, it is a quick way to turn your BB in that much more landfill material. Why is it so important to not have to briefly see a carrier screen on occasion?
Agreed, while my phone is booting, I dont even look at it. I holster it and know to pull it out in about 5 minutes for use again :D
People act like the splash screen is a Medusa. If they see the carrier logo, they'll turn to stone.
thanks Shao for replying to that for me!
:D Caught me off guard lol
