im between 9900 and 9790 :S , the only thing that is keeping me from buying the 9900 , is the battery life , how much better is the battery life with an OS upgrade? , i dont have too many apps on my 9780 , im mostly using bbm

I would stick to the 9790 if you prefer and love the formfactor and require autofocus for the camera but don't really care about the HD stuff.
haha you look seriously cool! btw you really live in a beautiful place man!
Thanks haha. And I don't live here. Im on vacation in Maui; ive been coming pretty much my whole life at least once a year. I live in Los Angeles, right next to Beverly Hills which isn't half bad either.

Just as a point of reference, our household and extended family all have new 9930's, iPhone 3 and 4's, Samsung and Motorola Androids, and even a couple of Nokia flip "dumb" phones. The stock 9930 lasts the longest next to the Nokia dumbphone. I really don't get the whole battery concern of the 9930. It's great. lasts all day for me and I'm on it constantly. I also am careful to shutdown apps that aren't needed and only install solid proven apps.
It doesn't last as long as my old non 3G Curves and 9000, but it's way better than most smartphones out there.
Well, to get back to the main focus of this thread, here is a picture of text. Turned out really well ino. Zoomed in once (2X zoom I guess), with flash, indoors. Picture of the coffee menu at Spago.
The 4S's picture is definitely clearer and brighter, but the 9930's does a good job. It's definitely readable and pretty clear. Plus, the 4S does have an 8MP camera with autofoucs... but that's no excuse.
Not sure if it is the distance, zoom or flash, but this image that I took seems clear and looks more like the 4S's picture imo. I tried without flash, with the 'low light' setting coming up, and the picture was horrible. Pretty much unreadable. So, I turned the flash on, lifted my phone up, zoomed in once and took the picture and the image came out almost perfect as you can see. I was also in 'close-up' mode.
Hey, take some more outside etc to see the real difference. We already know close up pics don't turn out the best, just usable.
Did you see my close up? It turned out great imo, compared to some of the others I've seen posted. Very clear and crisp... seems more like the iPhone's photo.
But I also want to see a comparison between the 4S and the 99XX when it comes to outside pictures.
And talking about comparisons, I'll do one against my mom's Droid2 tomorrow; landscape/outside photo.

Lol, I know, I posted loads myself in this thread early on, I'm sick of having to prove it lol. Good enough for me to take pics of signatures from my proof of delivery sheets.
I think the guy above used Text Mode not Closeup Mode, Text Mode is for black on white text as it takes the shot in black and white, not color, Closeup Mode takes shpts in color.
Here are some pics with the 4S for comparison for the 9900. The 9900 is nice just for the simple fact they put a camera in a phone. The iPhone 4S is leaps ahead of the competition. The pictures on the 9900 are ok.
I'm not a professional by any means....but the 4S takes a lot better pics then the 9900.....but I still love the 9900
Good photos.. Again lol
Do these modes make that much of a difference?
A little bit. Difference in the lighting and sharpness mainly. But the above pictures were two different phones. I've found beach mode works best with lighting on the beach. better than landscape and normal. And my moms droid 2 only has one mode. But it has autofocus. Didn't do much difference in this case though. Both 5mp cameras; pictures almost look identical lighting/quality wise.
Yup. The modes really do work. The 9930, in landscape and normal mode looks more like the Droid2 pic, but beach mode brings out the light as colors better.
Thanks for the comments.
I'm staying at the Grand Wailea, Maui btw. I'm gonna post more videos in the 99XX video thread I created. Sunset video is the first post.
