I often hear many people complaining or wanting to have the Bold 9650 look like the Bold 9700. I found this picture of the Tour 2 9650 splitting with the 9700 Bold to show the differences between of the Bold 9650 if it stays the same without changes, this is what the difference would be compared to the Bold 9700

as you can see, the only difference if the Bold 9650 stays the same as we see here when the final release comes, is that the Bold 9650 has a somewhat larger bezel VS the 9700 Bold. Other then that, you can see from the pic, nothing else is different on the face of the phones in looks.

just thought it was pretty interesting

(left side is the 9650, right side is the 9700.

The bold on the right has the best feeling keys! Soft and solid!

The tour keyboard are hard and are uncomfortable on the thumbs

I thought the Bold 9700 was a tiny bit smaller than the new Tour/Bold 9650?

You have to post pictures from the side and the back too. There are major differences there (battery cover, side buttons, etc.).

This is wrong.. you have scaled the photos to be the same size.. Tour is both taller and wider..

That's what I was thinking. I saw the specs somewhere and the Tour was just a little bigger.

I have not scaled the pic. Clearly you can see where the 9650 is a little bigger due to the bigger thicker bezel. Right now the 9650 is 3mm wider then the 9700, and that's only due to the thicker bezel that's on the Tour and Bold 9650

This pic only compares the face of the phone, the sides and back are different on both. I could only find this picture to compare the front of the phones only

the tour picture is obviously disproportionate. it's stretched too wide, so yes it is scaled incorrectly. whoever mocked it up did a terrible job.

also, the tour1 and 9700 keypads are of a different texture and button travel, as i have them both in front of me.

Agreed. I had them both at the same time and noticed the same thing. Also, the total width of the keypad is wider (I measured it). The keys look the same size, but the total distance is wider.

I know MJ disagrees with me on this strongly... LOL.

mjbesen310, have you had face time with a 9700? the design of the phone casing is different from the 9630/9650.

on the 9700, the top cover is a protruding piece, and is beveled. the bezel is thinner on the sides but has a completely different design at the top and bottom. the screen is beveled outward as well, whereas the tour's screen is recessed or flat with the bezel. there is no plastic bar between the screen and keyboard as there is on the tour.

And I agree with MJBesen310. I understand what you are saying where the keyboard is wider on the 9700, but the fact is the Tour keyboard just has more curve to it. That is why the width of the keys from one end of the phone to the other is a bit wider on the 9700 than the 9630. I have both of them in front of me and other than the bottom row, the keys are the same size, just curved differently. I believe the essex pictures show the keyboard to have less curve to it, just like the 9700.

And to MJBesen310, that plastic piece is the other difference in the two. It is a big deal to me because there is so much dust that gets caught in between that area it gets annoying to look at and clean. I know it doesn't bother everyone but it just looks cleaner without that piece.

The reason I was asking for the side/back pics is that I think that the 9700 looks much sleeker on those angles. I like the black side buttons on the 9700 and the battery cover on the 9700 (imho) looks much better than the Tour battery cover. If they added the faux leather battery cover and the ruberized side buttons to the 9650 that we've seen so far I'd be thrilled.

This topic has been beaten to death, the phones are very similar they use a lot of the same parts, camera, screen, keyboard even the side buttons are the same just not rubberized, speaker this is a normal practice by large corporation, brand differentiation with the same parts, easy example chevy silverado and gmc sierra, chevy tahoe and gmc yukon, different names, dame vehicle with slight aesthetic differences

The 9700 is definitely smaller then the 9630. The 9650's that popped up are exactly the same size as the 9630 just with trackpad and a small difference in the placement of a few keys. The 9700 is just a bit to small for me

That is incorrect. The Bold 9700's Keyboard is slighly wider than the Tour simply because the keyboard extends all the way to the width of the phone where as the Tour has that Bezel and the Keys stop at the Bezel

Yea thats because the Tour has a wider bezel obviously. The Tour keyboard has more curve to it than the Bold. They are the same keyboards, minus the bottom row.

no matter how much I try to explain to people that the Tour has a bigger Bezel VS the 9700, they still dont understand. They think the 9700 keyboard is bigger since it goes to the edge of the 9700, which is false becuase the bezel is smaller on the 9700 which makes it look like its bigger, but the same keyboard on a smaller phone will make the keyboard look bigger.

no the keyboards are actually two different sizes. hold the tour on top of the bold with both keyboards showing and you will see it. you can even tell when typing on it that they bold's keyboard is a hair wider.

The slightly expanded width made more room for the thumbs and made for less typos on my Tour - unless you are a one finger plucker.
