Which network are you on? I was not aware that Verizon offered the 9700. I am running OS .602 on AT&T and have had no issues.
OS 4 was NEVER created for the 9700... the first one came with an early version of OS 5.0... so to answer your question: NO, there is NO OS 4 for the 9700.
Your best bet might be a theme. What are the issues with 5 that are bothering you?
Totally agree.
What could you hate about OS 5?
Whoops, sorry forgot to change the phone in my profile.
So I'm running 9700 on T-Mob OS5.0.0.714, and here is what I dislike (Hey if these are "work-around-able" then I could be happy):
Not seperating messages like OS 4 did, so all SMS from people are all grouped into one chat string (this is the one that probably bugs me the most).
Calendar events don't turn my device on anymore, so if my phone isn't on at 8am and I had a reminder when I turn it on after 8 it doesn't flash up. Also I have a bunch of recurring events, and if one pops up and I want to delay it for an hour it shifts all the recurring by and hour (on OS 4 you could select view reminder when it popped up, and changing the time would only do it for that reminder not the whole series).
Don't like the personal ringtone/messages, they just never seem to work correctly no matter how they are set up and on whatever volume profile setting.
Speratic freezing (usually for about 5 seconds)
And finally, my Bold runs ways slower than my 8900. I thought as this 9700 has a little more HorsePower under the hood, I wouldn't have any lag.
There are a couple other things also, but I think you get the idea LOL
I understand some people love OS 5, but sorry folks i'm just not digging it. I have been a BB user for years, and have had many phones and OS's and I just think that 4 was the bomb.
And before you say "Just go back to your 8900" I simply don't want to. I LOVE the 9700, it feels good in my hand, it's better to type on etc.....
So please MTV, Pimp my ride (Or maybe someone could just throw a few suggestions my way LOL)
Thanks in advance fellow BB'ers
SMS messages are now threaded... it's just the way things are now... they should be threaded for only that person or persons that you are having a conversation with, not all threaded together regardless of person. So if you have a SMS going to two or three people, this thread will continue as long as you or they continue talking on it.
I've never used Calendar events to wake me up or my device... I've always used Alarms on my Calendar to do this... maybe you should setup an Alarm to wake you up for your appointments.
Never had an issue with this... but I really prefer BerryBuzz to notify me of different people or different notifications... usually on Vibrate mode almost 100% of the time.
Do you check to see what is running in the background of your device... hold down the Menu button for a full second, scroll left and right to see all the apps running... as part of the OS there are 5 or 6 apps running: Browser, Messages, Messenger, Phone, Home and possibly Visual Voice Mail... I don't like VVM, so I removed it from my device... if you see ANY other apps, then they are not being closed properly (Menu > Close or Exit), then check to be sure it's closed. This can cause freezing or lags in your device.
You can change the SMS view from bubbles to stripes if that makes it easier under options crunch SMS may give u that option but I am not sure

Thanks for the feedback folks, and I know some of the features of OS 4 I like make seem quirky to you but I love them. I do use the alarm daily but I like the old calendar wake up feature because if I switch my phone off and have forgotten to do something it would wake up and tell me.
As for SMS I'm really bummed that there is no solution to get back to the old separated way, i understand that's how it is from here forward but it sucks that you don't even have the option to go back.
I have checked what's running in the background and i have removed some stuff like VVM (which sucks compared to most other VVM)' but still really no major speed increase.
I am ma longtime BB user so i am familiar with all the obvious and advanced stuff somewhat,. i just can't seem to get as much satisfaction out of OS 5 as i used to get out of 4 :(
with the whole having your phone off problem, theres an option on the phone that you can set it to auto shut off and auto wake up at certain time of the day if that helps
I don't mean to be unsympathetic but build a bridge and move on. The OS ship has sailed. Why put an under-powered engine in such high-powered beast? As the OS evolves, certain functionality may change as a result of acquiring new and sometimes improved overall functionality. Functionality drives performance and that is what counts at the end of the day. Either wait for the 9800 and OS 6.0 or get another device and stop living in the past.
No $hit sherlock, I'm not dumb. I know things change, but i didn't realize that I shouldn't like something that I have had for the last 2 years.......
I'm pissed they don't make cassette tapes anymore. DVD's and MP3s are for the birds.
No one is saying that you can't miss functionality that you liked. Change is also good. RIM probably has had many requests for the functionality that you miss but they also have to balance making forward progress to beat the competition. Let them know that you would like the features restored and get your friends to do the same. All they can say is no.
