I've read countless posts about both OS's but can't get a clear answer about which is better between the two. All I know is that I have a stupid amount of 3rd party apps loaded...use 'em all...and have NO memory. On a fresh Batt pull I have <20MB free (usually closer to 15MB). Within a few hours of "general" use I'm usually down to 5MB and start seeing the clock...A LOT!

Why, oh why couldn't my Bold come with more memory!?!

Oh, by the way, I'm currently running .247. I just want a comparison of that against .266.

Sounds like some apps are eating your memory. Check the settings to be sure they are not updating in the background.

i have used both .266 and .247 and i found the memory management to be about the same and the battery in .247 to be better than .266 but i think thats not the same for everyone since many others say the battery on .266 is better. Try them both however in your case it looks like an app like bt said.

    Medium_Robin,

I have recently posted this on another thread discussing every ones memory usage... It seems we are both having the same problem...

Love my OS for various reasons but when it comes to the amount of memory free in 24 hours, it is horrendous.

    OS: v4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.217)
APPS: 15 of them (Google Maps, Nav4all, Pandora, Bolt, etc)
    Memory Reboot: around 25mb - 30mb
    24 hours later: 6.3mb

Yesterday I was using Google Maps & Nav4all heavily and I saw my memory at a low 1.7mb. The OS is great on signal and battery life but it has taken a heavy toll on memory usage. Previous OSs were way better with memory on my phone. Anyone having similar issues?

I am planning to try .266 sometime this week. I will keep you posted if that fixes the issue I am having and hopefully it could fix yours as well..

.266 is awesome for me, i only have 10 apps. and always sit at about 50mb of free memory and my battery lasts about 2 days depending on how much i use it each day. 3g also works great.

Facebook 1.6 - does run in the background
    freep.com launcher
    Google Maps
    Google Sync
    MLB.com launcher
    NobexRC
    Pandora
    Poynt
    qsms

TodoMatrix - runs in the background
    Tweet Genius - not running
Viigo (alpha) - does not update in the background
WSJ Reader - does not update in the background

Come to think of it, maybe The Street.com program with it's "push" article delivery is eating it up. I'll try deleting that.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions. The only other thing I can think of is Viigo alpha. Maybe there is a real mem leak with the alpha.

Memory and battery life to me seem equal. The one thing that I did not like about .266 was I got more hour glass and lag on that OS so I went back to .247

i had the same overheating problem got me all tensed up cause it was my first berry. Downgraded to .247 no overheating, battery last about two days compared to a lil more than one with .266 and memory was better. with .266 i would go down to 39 in a day with 10 apps and properly closing each app and with .247 i go down to 41-42 in about 2-3 days and i have 22 apps.

I was hesitating as well to upgrade from .247 to .266. Since .266 is an official release for my operator and .247 is not, I upgraded two bold.

Battery seems to be holding longer and no other problems. I had used the Beta version before and got some strange issues ie.g. 'uncaught exception error' and less memory. Used the official release (Starhub from Blackberry web page), it's all good.

I noticed that after I installed score mobile that my phones memory started to deplete much faster. Even when I had score mobile not running in the background. Once I deleted score mobile I had much more memory and the memory took longer to go down. Also yeah dont have things running in the background especially facebook of all things.

    **NEW**

    OS: v4.6.0.266 (Platform 4.0.0.223)
APPS: 15 of them (Google Maps, Nav4all, Pandora, Bolt, etc)
    Memory Reboot: around 40mb - 45mb
    24 hours later: 32.3mb

So I have been using this OS for about a whole day and I must say that everything works much better than v4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.217). Memory is staying at a consistent 30mb-35mb rather than the 5.3 mb i was having before. I have yet to see the "white screen" after pulling it out of the holster. The themes are working great and the battery life is excellent.. So far an A+ in my book. Still testing out a few more things to make sure things are working out 100% normal.

I am upset though that the new 4.6.0.282 OS was just posted and will allow you to change your network for those with the AT&T Bold. I really don't feel like going back and reinstalling a new OS now..

ran .266 for a bit and it chewed up my battery life.

downgraded to .247 and have been very happy.

Funny thing is that my wife's old is running .266 just fine. She won't let me mess with her phone since it is "working perfectly" for her.

Who knows, seems to be a combo of carrier, apps, and OS. I'm with her on the not broke don't fix attitude.
