Can others running 5.0.0.203 on their Onyx please confirm this?
I am still a little new around here, but one thing i have learned in my short time is.
IF IT COMES FROM CRUCIAL XTREME BELIEVE IT!!
Thanks Smoker. Yes with the new firmware, 9700 is ready. Although you're not going to find many using .203. I wouldn't play around with such a serious subject. :)
why is beta OS such a serious topic ??
Once the OS is ready to go, the units will pass through testing with the carriers and then be released sometime after that.
My own personal guess.
9700 is already in the testing phase w/ the carriers, I assume the newer OS releases just fix any bugs that have been discovered
Including Tmo?
I wish they'd announce a release date for AT&T. I'm on the verge of getting a Bold but if the 9700 is coming soon I would probably tough it out with my 8310 a little longer.
I'd wait unless you get the Bold at a good price
Get the Bold. Even if the 9700 Bold is released late this year, I am waiting for all the initial "bugs" not detected during the testing phase that inevitably arise in production to pass. The Bold 9000 is a great device in the interim and if the Bold 9700, for some unfathomable reason, fails to live up to expectations, you still have an excellent device. It is a win-win situation.
I would be shocked if you see an announcement before October with Release coming in early November.
Also a point to note is that .203 has not been released to at&t field testers yet so we don't know how it performs. I too have learned to trust CX as he is almost always right. :)
I had a Bold the day of AT&T release...and never had a single issue, in fact it was the best Bold I've owned to date. I stupidly traded it for an iPhone 3G...and I could still kick myself for doing it. I've had 4 Bolds since, and none have been as solid as my first, and worked any smoother.
I wouldn't worry too much about initial "bugs" with the 9700. AT&T is more thorough than Rogers and other carriers with testing and troubleshooting, that's why it takes them longer to release.
The Bold is a tremendous device. If you don't especially need a slightly improved camera, are fine with the Bold size...and don't especially need the improved (slightly) amount of onboard memory and processor speeds...I would certainly go for the Bold. If you can get one at a super cheap price...all the better.
Of course, having said all that...I'll probably pick up a 9700 when it drops to AT&T, just because I want a new toy!
