This download is from Telecomunicaciones Movilnet C.A but will work on ANY carrier's 9000 model BB.
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
Picked up maybe 1-2 MB after putting my apps back in..right at 58MB...another strong app although for audio I'm thinking .282 (Vodafone) may have been just slightly better..not by much.
It's worth an interim try before .297 comes out...
I'm almost a full day in and my app memory just dipped below 40 for the first time. Holding solid at 39.8MB with pretty heavy usage the past couple hours and then off and on all day. Very solid.

That sounds very consistent with what I've had ever since .282...max mem to minimum memory has a range of around 18-19 MB...I'll probably drop to around 40MB with consistent usage over a day.
Compare these stats with when I first bought the Bold (.167)..I had 41MB as a max the very first day...after adding basic apps I could barely crack 25...and often would hit under 5MB and on many occasions 0MB. Gotta admit I've learned quite a bit off of here!
i think the 292 is a bit better than the 297, at least for me. I don't care about VVM. The battery life and memory leak is way worse in the 297 for me. I want to change back but can't deal with the hassle of wiping my phone, etc...
I know the initial comments mentioned that this OS would work for any carrier...but I am in the UK and currently using v4.6.0.247 . Will this be OK for me? Is there any significant improvement in the OS from what I have?
I went back to .292 from .301 .301 was doing flaky stuff....freezing my phone after I'd end a call...making the display lights flicker etc.... On .292 its fine.
Thanks I really needed to upgrade as my phone was working like a dog with fleas. Seems to have sorted out all my problems. I'll have to do this more often, every 6 months does not seem to be enough to keep the phone running sweetly.
