1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the AppLoader says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
And with this new os, can I read or input asian languages? (like korean or chinese)
Yes, basically different OS' works on all carriers as long as its the same phone model (Unless its GSM/CDMA specific, but as far as I know, all 3 Canadian carriers are carrying the 9700). It will also have full input support for Chinese (simplified & traditional), Japanese and Korean. CJK!!!!!!!
Multilanguage does not support EastAsian languages (i.e. Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean). The EastAsian pack also includes additional input methods for the above mentioned languages.
w/o the east asia language pack, when you browse, say, a Chinese website the web content just can't be displayed because the browser can't decode the Chinese characters (neither do you, lol).

did the official bell update earlier today and i'm having the same problems.
Tried upgrading my gfs 9700 and it keeps getting stuck at connecting to device ROM.

Are you on a Mac, running Windows under VMWare Fusion / Parallels? I had a similar problem trying to update my Curve 8900 using VMWare Fusion, and I had to switch to a dedicated Windows machine to complete the process.
