Please forgive a rather basic question though, but do OS upgrades come directly from RIM, or via the airtime provider?
My reason for asking is that I am hoping to buy a SIM free unlocked Bold just as soon as they become available here in the UK, and to use my existing O2 3G SIM card (plus the appropriate Blackberry 'Bolt-On' to my tariff).
If at that time O2 have not officially released the Bold (which they will do eventually, once the iPhone sales start to drop off a bit!) will I only be able to upgrade the OS via O2 or, once having registered the phone, will I then be able to download it directly from a RIM server?

Hope this makes sense!
No, you will have to get this OS from your carrier.
I was sort of hoping there would be a 'generic' version available, but it looks then as if I will have to wait until my intended carrier actually launches the Bold in the UK before they will have an updated version of the OS available.
What I had (obviously mistakenly) assumed was that once I had registered it I would then immediately have access to the latest available OS. (Like you now have with Nokia phones)
An interesting list mousey, which I noticed included Vodafone UK (although obviously nothing for the Bold yet) but there was no mention of O2 (UK) at all.
This rather surprised me, as they do offer many BlackBerry models... does anyone know the reason for this?

What is the latest release for the Bold. I am having lots of little issues, such as 3g battery usage, resets..etc.
noticed that the following was posted:
"This is a pretty old beta. The latest OS for the Bold is 4.6.0.111 "
But isn't the v4.6.0.199 later since it is a higher number?
Thanks.
Thanks, but it looked to me as if you had to have a T-Mobile account to log into their site in order to download the new OS... or is there a way around this?
Edit: Sorry... just found the answer in the other thread... here is a direct link in the first post on that page!
