Right now as I type this my keypad light is off. I was also just reading an email and after a few seconds the screen just started to fade and eventually went dark. I had to hit the trackpad to get back on.

I've got my backlight dim set to no. What's causing this?

If you are just reading, and not pressing a button, or moving the trackball then your screen will timeout (sending it to the black screen) to conserve battery.

You can change the time out on the backlight to a longer period of time if you wish.

I've got it set to a minute and it doesn't last that long.

The keypad light will automatically turn off if the light sensor is too high, i.e. if the enviroment the phone is in is bright, no matter what setting the backlight is set to, it will go off. Is the phone is a bright area? Does the same thing happen if you have the phone in a dark place?

    Wow. Anyone RTFM?

This is actually a documented feature.
