Thanks so much for taking all the time you did to let the rest of us know about the new phone 1st hand. I for one appreciate that. I was afraid the close up pictures would look that way.
If luck holds I will have a seed device via our business Rep by the end of the weekend and I will run some tests of my own however I fear my close up pictures will not look any better than yours.
no problem. i'll try to take more time tonight to get more close up pictures and whatnot. don't forget to ask if there is anything else you would like to see!
Got to agree... camera sucks. I've tried different settings and the 9900 still isn't as good as the 9780. Oh well... Maybe someone knows of tricks to get better pics.
Awesome video review euro2low. Thank you so much. You were putting a beating on the device and it took it like a champ.
EDOF might not take great closeup shots but my gooodness the speed it takes them is blazing! This device looks excellent and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Also for those wanting to take closeup shots, hold it back because it is damn near impossible to focus on anything closer than 20-30 cm. It might not be as clear as an autofocus but at least text will be legible.
Oh and euro2low if you could post a 720p version of your recorded video that would be great so we get the full idea. Thanks.
I took this shot 2.5 feet away from the document and used the zoom feature ( on my blackberry bold 9650 ). If it wouldn't be to much trouble try to take a picture of a document or text approx 8.5 x 11'' so that the whole thing is captured.
This is from a two year old phone.
Thanks again for working so hard for us man! You are a true hero!
Yea it is blazing fast inbetween photos which makes up for lack of A/F. The 720p version of the dark to light will be uploaded shortly. Just had to step out of the house.

Can you show the quality of the Video Recorder on the MMS Video Format? I want to see if it's good quality to send multimedia messages to contacts or to upload to youtube. My torch makes my videos on MMS format little fuzzy and well bad quality.
Those pictures look very depressing in quality. My year old captivate took better pics . $199 price tag is going to be hard to justify for a full keyboard and half touch screen. I'm still optimistic, if the 9900 ain't for me then maybe I can score somebodies gently used 9780? The new T2 unboxing looks just as lame as the T1. Mega bummer there as well. Sorry about the whine but I was really needing this camera to match the rest of the kick *** phone quality.
I am sure the camera quality will get better as the OS gets updated. I remember when i had an Samsung Omnia HD (1080i) and as firmware got upgraded the quality of the camera got better. The pictures I took were NOT in optimal lighting, it was very cloudy weather. I will play around with the setting tonight to try to get something better out of it.

I think this is possible. These EDOF cameras are very software dependent. There are a lot of tricks that it does to get optimal shots. Adjustments in the way it "focuses" and deals with lighting can improve.
Brilliant review OP...I didn't realize it was possible to want the 9900 more than I previously did but you made it happen. Thanks for taking the time to share.
You had some cloud coverage as well, that can also mess with the exposure levels. I saw that you did some closeups with text, which photos were taken with the close-up macro shots? Low light can also hurt the photos as well.

no problem. feel free to ask me for any questions / things you would like to see. if you want an answer right away sent me an @reply on twitter! @zammboss
Possibly show off wikitude, compass in action so we see how accurate it is, some popular apps that support bb7 so we get a good idea of how the performance increase helps, a typing demo so we can see just how fast things can be typed out without seeing lag? Thanks!

the text selection is MUCH better than ever. RIM did a good job at this which was something that really bothered me on my torch. It is very easy to select large sections of texts.
I have tried to type as fast as possible and have yet to lag up the device.
