Hi guys, i just got my bold yesterday,and so far there's a problem.
when i connect my phone to my mac nothing happened!!!!
the phone display showed clock for 2 sec and gone.
not even charging , didint ask for turning on mass storage.
i also tried on my pc as well, which can sync which DM
but cant use as mass storage.

Is it normal or just a fault on my phone???

I had this happen this morning. I rebotted both my pc and Bold and all worked again

via usb port- whether BOLD or Curve(I have both). Must be a default setting
In the devices.

Absolute nonsense - how do you think you can sync files (e.g music) otherwise?!

To the OP: try unchecking the "Enable mass storage automatically" - you will then see if, when connected via USB, the phone tries to enable MSM.

hey i have the same problem too!!!
i got my phone from orange on sat &im using mac too!
i have tried plugging my mini SD card in the comp &it did sense it but failed when i plug the phone via usb!!!
my frd from canada whos using bold too in a phone company said its a default problem but orange refuses to change a phone for me!!!

Under options go to Media Card and where it says Auto Enable Mass Storage Connected If you select NO it will not allow you to open the Media Card on the computer. Select Yes or Prompt.

I have this problem too...

I had a bold, working beautifully on my Mac with Missing Sync as pocketmac is buggy as **** when it comes to working with entourage 2008.

I had to change the phone and now im having this problem.

OSX 10.4.11
Bold 4.6 software
latest missing sync.
Carrier Orange UK

If I plug it in I dont get mass storage promt (it is slected for this), i get the clock, and then it stops.
The media card is in and the machine sees it as there are pics on there.
No charge happens from USB.
Missing sync verbose says it cant connect - no error message.

I have tried pocket mac - no connection.
Missing sync is dead, and all my contacts or on the laptop.

I connected it to a pc a short while ago and it didnt seem to work with the desktop manager although i did see that the BB was seen by the pc (the balloon saying new hardwarwe detected) but I couldnt see the drive in my computer)

Solutions please! Am in real need of some help here and Orange havent got a clue.

If I understand correctly and the computer isn't recognizing the device, you need to reinstall the drivers on your compute for the USB port. I wasn't paying attention to what platform or OS you were running but Vista has a nasty habit of all of a sudden forgetting things. Like installs.

done, but still no joy. Anyone else managed to sort this...? Im reaching the point where I may reinstall the whole device OS as is definitely not my mac as its working fine with my pearl!

Not really true. If your computer is recognizing other usb devices, why would you have to reinstall the drivers?

Do a battery pull on your phone, and reboot your mac.

It's not a common problem, but I have heard of people getting Bolds with funky USB connectivity, which required a swap on the phone. If your phone is recognized by a charger though though, that can't be the issue.

Also, if you have a memory card in your Bold, you need to format the card.

To do that, go to your options then memory, and click the blackberry button and format media card. It will delete anything on it and format it for blackberry. Then when you plug into your computer, you should be able to see the memory card as a removable device.

SO, charger works, USB doesnt.
Mac works with Pearl, but not new bold.
this is a replacement for a replacement phone which had the same issue.
Orange have no idea and have been reluctant to help.

Do people concur this is most likely a phone problem?

I was looking into your issue a little. There are multiple reports of this issue it seems with Macintosh computers, but here is a link to a thread on the official BB forums related to your issue. I'm not sure if you have looked through there much?

I cannot post html links since I do not have enough posts, but google "blackberry bold working on mac" sans quotes. It was the supportforums dot blackberry dot com with a heading of "Blackberry Bold On Mac". A person in that thread has stated that RIM is "supposed to" be developing a MAC sync application to resolve issues. The bad news is it might be available early 2009. I have not read into that part much. If you have an Intel MAC, you can install windows as a virtual machine for another way to resolve the issue.

i do have windows in my pc tho, usb charging works fine but no luck for mass storage.
My curve works ok with my mac(charging, mass storage and pocket mac)

That's odd. I wouldn't think it's a mac problem though.

I'm running OS X 10.5.5 as well and BB firmware version .167 on my Bold and it works like a charm. No hang ups with pocketmac or anything. And it definitely lets me drag and drop files onto my Bold just from the card as it appears as a removable drive on my desktop when I plug in my Bold.

I get 2 removable drives that pop up when I plug my bold into the mac:

Blackberry 1
Blackberry 2

1 is the device memory and I can edit that

2 is the media card and has the formatted folders.

Maybe the issue is with fw .162? Try upgrading your BB firmware then see if .167 or higher solves the problem.

Due to not having access to a MAC to try this on I would recommend what amkls704 suggested with upgrading the Bold firmware. The OP did not communicate what MAC OS they were using. Substar had an older OS version than amkls704 as well.
