I can't seem to be able to determine if the LCD in both devices has the same part number. I'm wanting to port my 9700 LCD over to the 9780. Is there any difference between the two LCDs?

There aree diffferent screens. If the numbers on the back of the LCD are the same, youuur good to go.

Thanks for the help. Is there a tear-down video for the screen replacement. I tried to find it on youtube from about a year ago but it doesn't appear to be there any longer.

Just spoke to a cell repair shop and they said that depending on whether it is a 001, 002 or 003 will determine if they are interchangeable e.g. you can't put in a 001 screen into a device that had a 002 part number. Does this sound correct?

Are there good odds that it would be the same screen or did RIM likely use different units in the 9780 v. the 9700.

    A 001 screen for the 9700 will be a replacement for a 001 screen for the 9780 if that's what you're asking.

Just get the right number and go for it.

Its simple. If the numbers match, it will work. If not, the ports are different and the screen will not work..

So if the ports are different then it is not necessary to actually remove the screen to determine if there is a matchI.e. All one has to do is look at the ports. Therefore it is not necessary to pry the screen out of base. That was the scary part in the tear down...everything else didn't look too difficult.
