    Hello,

I cracked my bold 9780 bb LCD. I opened it up and found it had a 402/444 white screen. Knowing that I should get the exact same model, I found it on eBay @ NEW Repair LCD Screen Display Panel Part FOR Blackberry Bold 9700 9780 402 444 | eBay
It says 402/444. I got it and as I recall, it said the same thing on the back of the screen (402/444). After installing it , it gave me a fuzzy coloured screen. I looked it up and knew that downgrading to os5 might solve this issue in bold 9700. I contacted the seller for clarifications and still waiting. Anyone can help? Image attached.

    Thanks,
    Mostafa

Whenever you do your own repair you run the risk of doing further damage, also it's possible there was more broken in the fall that damaged the screen, than JUST the screen. There are ribbon cables and lots of small pieces inside the device that could be damaged. You could try taking it apart again and putting it together again being careful to make sure you attack securely all the ribbon cables.

I did actually try to take off again and back together with no luck. How to make sure that nothing else is broken?

What happens if you swap your cracked screen back in? Does that still show the phone as still working okay? I suggest this so you can confirm to yourself that you have not caused any extra damage.

How did you choose your EBay seller? Recommendation or cheapest? There are a lot of shady dealers out there...

Note: ignore advice for the 9700. If you have a 9780 is it OS 6 only. Can't install either OS5 or OS7 on the phone.

I have just looked at that EBay link. I haven't replaced a screen in a phone, so don't know how close a 9700 screen is to a 9780 one.

But that seller looks to have a typing mistake in his title. Read the description and that ONLY mentions the 9700. It is even as specific as saying "This White LCD Screen for Blackberry Bold2 9700 402/444". I'd also point out the "only works on OS5" as another bit of proof that this is just the wrong screen for your phone. He is selling old 9700 screens.

If it's the wrong part then it's just not going to work, short of getting a BBRY engineer with special equipment I don't think you are going to be able to get a 9700 screen to be able to work in a 9780!

Most decent EBay traders should be happy to swap. If you point out the error in his listing as the title has 9780 but the description says 9700.

Oddly enough I just been swapping a battery with an EBay seller who did the same with me - error in title. (Not phone related). Often the sellers have so many of these in stock they just get confused as to which is which. He probably didn't know there was a difference between 9700 and 9780.
