Downgrade? Why didn't you upgrade to official .534 to see if that cured your problem?
...and FYI .480 was the first great OS build for the 9780, anything below it is crap in comparison.

iIt made the cursor behave better in the browser, half fixed the I'm issue with scrolling and changed the battery meter icon. The camera was made marginally better. Like I said, hardly a revelation. BT will still be broken as the stack itself has now permanently changed, however new car next week so may try again then.

very stable so far on my 9780...almost scared to go for the newest official lol
That is really good to know. I'm glad I didn't sink into a 9780 on release date - only got mine last week and the first OS I loaded was 6.0.0.534.
I have a bug to report, don't actually know if it's been mentioned; Sometimes, when I enter an SMS conversation, the buttons are unresponsive and to get them work I have to press the Back button and enter the conversation again. Why is this happening?
Figured I'd chime in and report that this one is smooth as silk.
I was previously running a hybrid that I used to upgrade from the stock firmware, which was terrible on battery life and the hybrid was waaaaay better; but I'd lost some functionality with the hybrid. This one's not as good for battery as the hybrid but much better than stock and it has everything I need. It also fixed an annoyance I had with previous versions, where typing text messages wouldn't scroll down after a few lines.
Why is it happening? RIM quality control :-)

Is it possible to remove the carrier image
No, that's hard-coded into your device and will always be there.

I had poor/broken GPS and messaging issues. Tried many fixes- but loading the latest OS from TMO was only thing that fixed it (6.0.0.448).
