I did a new fresh install - two actually.

First, replaced the .SFI with the one from .714 - didn't work. Install went fine, but when the device was restarting start giving err 200. My assumption is the OS and .SFI from .714 not cpmpatible.

Second one was done "by-the-books". Device wiped and "clean" install. Still have the huge heating. As I type this message, have put the device to charge, and it downloads my podcast over WiFi -- temperature just jumped to 37C - which is scary.

I may try in next couple of days to put .714 .SFI and see ...

Same usage and area as on .825, dont think we had any outages but who knows. Will stay couple of more days on this install, and if same heating, as mentioned above will see is it going to work with .714 .sfi
It couldn't work with .714 .sfi
Gave error 200, so I used .861 .sfi and so far It works well...

The BL team have confirmed that for some reason .861 is not compatible with any previous .sfi file.

Their next Hybrid Build based on .861 will come in 2 versions:

One that will only run .861 .sfi and one that you can run any .sfi other than .861.

They are due to be released in the next couple of days so keep an eye out on the thread if you are interested.

Is this update is more stable than any other upgrade before (for exampe. 7.1.0.523)? About stability, battery life improved overall? Does it means can use on any telco carriers in the world right if deleting the Vendor.xml files?
Sorry if this questions is a little nooby. I'm in a learning process in using Blackberry. Currently using os 7.1.0.523 on my Bold 9900....so far stable enough.

Yes you can load it after deleting teh Vendor.xml file(s)

Coming from .523 you should notice an improvement in speed and browser.

Users are reporting that memory leak is minimal.

Hop Spot has been there since OS .205 ish provided your carrier allows it as part of your data plan.

Okay. Thanks. So, for the first time upgrade, I just need to download this OS 7.1.0.861 from Telecom New Zealand os files only right? Dont have to download any other base os whatsover?

Yes, just download and run .861, back up your device and install.

You only need a base OS when installing a hybrid.

My 9900's an object of pure beauty. Shame about the facebook app being a massive pile of slow-running dog****, but aside from that, I'm very happy with the phone.

Thanks for the update. Installed without problem.

Updated to this from .569 I still get the uncaught exception and unable to open the tasks app even after making sure tasks was not ticked when I shrunk it.

It's packed back away now anyway

.825 kinda sucked for me in terms of signal and battery life, the previous .794 was actually alot better
And now moved on to this one, hopefully it's better than .825, Installing right now with the Bl Hybrid
