I just exchanged my new Blackberry Tour for a Blackberry Bold today and the keypad light is going on and off randomly. Is this normal? Is there some kind of sensor that causes this to happen? Even while using the phone the keypad light has gone off. This is my first Blackberry period so I dont know whats going on.

I believe the keyboard will auto adjust if you have it set to do this. If you go to options - screen/keyboard - automatically dim backlight and turn that off the backlight should always be on.

Note - this will decrease battery performance.

The phone has a light sensor, so the keypad only lights up when it's dark enough. Put your finger over the led and it will turn on.

Mine did the same thing tonight. I was in a dark area and using BBM and my keypad went dark. i couldn't get it back on by just pushing the trackpad or keys. I had to exit and come back...

I've got my backlight to NOT automatically dim...
