I would like to use German characters when writing emails/texts - I cannot work out how to do this - any advice would be gratefully received!

I don't know if this is of any help but you can try typing a letter e.g. press "A" and don't stop pressing it, and at the same time moove your trackball (left-right od up-down) => �.
