    Newb question:

    I wiped my bb and installed a new version of the OS following the steps I read here on the forum (deleting the xml file and all that). Is my phone now unlocked and I can use it on any carrier?

    No sorry. Your phone will be unlocked if you input the code which you may get from your carrier or other sources. You could search these forums on the procedure to follow while unlocking.

    No, you must ask your carrier for the unlock code or use a third party to do so. Check out Horizon Wireless Online.
