Hello, im new here so please excuse if my questions are stupid or have already been answered elsewhere.
I have an iphone 4 on ATT and i am sick of it so I'd like to get a Blackberry. I want a Bold, and not the 9700 since that's sort of outdated already.

Whats the cheapest way to get a Bold 9780 (preferably in white)?

Is there a trading policy to trade in iphone 4 and get a 9780?

Is the Bold 9780 a solid good phone?

If you compare the battery life to the iphone 4 as a heavy texter, which is better?

    Thanks in Advance, Ben

The cheapest I've seen them was $300 on eBay. Although you pay more in eBay but it all depends on the condition of the phone you want. I was looking for one here on the FS forum and there were two on sale but they were black, not sure if you want them to be specifically for ATT or Tmobile or what, but you can get an unlocked one in eBay. Good luck on your search.
The 9780 is a pretty good solid phone, although there have been reports of bad keyboards, it is just a bad luck thing to get one that is crap.
The best bold is yet to come, the 9900/9930 but we don't know for certain on the release date of it in the US, it's all speculation that it will be released next month or so.

I agree. Your best bet will be getting on eBay from a Canadian carrier, that way you will be able to use AT&T 3G network. With a T-mobile branded 9870 you will only get Edge speeds on AT&T.

I just purchase a used 9780 from telus, it cost me $280 with shipping included. I also have an iPhone, and I'm looking to use the 9780 for some time before I get the upcoming 9900.

If I were you, I'll just wait for the 9900 and then trade (on craigslist) or sell your iPhone to buy a 9900.

Another thing, be careful buying 9870s on eBay, many of the sellers claim the wrong 3G bands for the phones. Make sure the phone you are buying is compatible with AT&T 3G bands (if you want 3G and not edge).

Thank you very much for the messages from both of you. If I buy a used/unlocked phone, will BBM- one of the main reasons to get a BB- work?

As long as you have the correct data plan, with Blackberry Internet Service.
A normal data plan will NOT work.

Sorry for asking again, but if I put the SIM i have in my iPhone 4 now into the Blackberry, would it work or do I need a BB SIM from AT&T?

Your AT&T SIM card in your iPhone will work in a BlackBerry. You will need an unlocked 9780 and the AT&T service books. Also, you will have to switch your data plan from iPhone to BlackBerry data plan.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the sim card in your IP4 is a micro sim and therefore will not fit in the BB. Both my wife and son have the iphone 4 and it will not fit in my white 9780 or any Blackberry for that matter. I believe you will have to get a different sim card and have the BIS plan activated.

    just my 2 cents

Consider yourself corrected. A micro SIM from an iPhone 4 will fit and operate in a BlackBerry without any issues. As long as the contact points are correctly positioned there is no problem. I have used a micro SIM from my iPhone 4 in several BlackBerry devices including a 9780.

9780 is really good device except key board problem.
9900 will stay for short time if QNX based BB’s come out.
So take your time to buy 9900

They also make an adapter that you slip your micro SIM card into that converts it to a full size SIM. I took my full size Blackberry SIM and cut it down with a SIM card cutter and use it in a iPhone 4 and multiple android devices. The data plan on the BB plan works fine for these devices.

Are you in Canada or the US?

I would suggest Craigslist, but it will be difficult to find a white bold 9780 that works on AT&T 3G bands for trade.

In my personal experience it has not worked because my data plan was not a blackberry data plan which was different from the iPhone plan. I had to call in each time and get it switched to a bb data plan and the same visa versa.
