Sorry, i know this has been asked a million times, but why cant the bold be unlocked for verizon?? i know its a CDMA vs. GSM issue, but doesnt verizon have GSM capability (8830, storm)???

No, Verizon does NOT have GSM capability. The SIM card slots in their world phones are intended for internatioal roaming. More so with an international SIM card.

I have yet to see a Verizon SIM card.

yes that's why you would be able to take the storm and use on att but the bold is not equipped with cdma so even if you unlocked it would still be using gsm (tmol/att)

YouTube it. Maybe you'll find it. If you haven't, it's because it's not possible.

Like I said, that video doesn't convince me that the iPhone was unlocked for Verzion.

Exactly I've seen peoples name where the network was supposed to be. But I am curious now could it be just a cruel hoaks.

There's no way for the Bold OR iPhone to be used on Verizon. On a jailbroken iPhone, like the one in the video, you can change what it says for your carrier. You can have it say AT&T, your name, T-Mo, Verizon, etc. It's IMPOSSIBLE to get an iPhone or Bold on Verizon.

    Correct.
That person is using a application which you can use to type in custom carrier names.

I am sure a lot of the themes developers here can easily come out with the theme that lets you change 1XEV on the storm to say 3G or something else lets say (signal from heaven) lol.

I think if someone started asking me this in real life I'd actually get pissed off, on a forum not so much, but yeah. Thank god for the UK not having CDMA networks.

AMEN buddy!! You can't or people would be all over it like white on rice...too bad at&t doesn't have esn #'s then you could ask for it to be added to the device management database....like some Sprint customers do

some of you people really really really need to go read about how cell phones work before you ask these silly questions.

Verizon uses CDMA technology in their phones. their network is based on something totally different than GSM. the two technologies are incompatible. the only reason the Storm works on GSM networks is because it has both CDMA and GSM radios in the phone and it able to use either or, depending on if its unlocked and you put a GSM SIM card in it. the Bold, and 95% of all the other GSM phones out there DO NOT have CDMA radios in them and CAN NOT pick up CDMA networks or be provisioned to work or even authenticate on the network. get over it.

A friend of mine did just that the other night. Hes on Sprint and he found a good price on a "jailbroke" iphone 3G. I explained over and over why it wouldnt work. I hope he heeded my advice and didnt buy it. If so...oh well...his loss.
