I traded in several old phones to Verizon and have about $300 towards the 9930. Since it's a work contract I have to buy it outright. But I don't have a monthly bill so fair trade.

I am hoping to finagle a deal, but likely it will be retail. Either way my return to BB is sealed and Android can return later on. I actually checked out the Playbook for the first time and it was pretty nice device.

conveniently, I'm due for an early upgrade on August 27th, which fits in nicely with the current rumoured 2/3 week release in the UK.

So, taking out a 2yr contract.

It better be worth every penny, because it will probably be $500 off contract.
    I'm thinking more like $600-700.

My contract with Bell has expired and I'm due for a free upgrade. OTOH I may be able to get a corporate deal [through my employer] with Rogers. Too many options to weigh until I see what both companies have to offer... I'm not averse to a contract, since I suspect it will be at least 2 years before the QNX handsets appear and then make it out of the bleeding edge zone...

I already have 300.00 credit towards the purchase (including that tradeup credit) and I entered VZW in off contract status, so I would rather just pay the retail price and call it a day

Gonna get it on contract, might wait a bit to wait for a drop. If I hate it I will swap with my wife's iphone4... Wait I owned the 9000 so I won't hate it.

Full retail for sure. I am halfway already in a 2 year contract. Never signing the contract again unless its for an iPhone.

for those who still are torn between getting the 9900/9930 phones or waiting for the super QNX phones. I'm going to help you making that decision. You can do either of the followings:
    1. sit around waiting for BlackBerry phones powered by QNX while you don't know anything concrete about it? Until then, you will waste countless hours of your life waiting, hoping, pissing off, cursing, searching for clues about this phone. (Like I've been doing with the 99xx).
    2. OR you can just buy the 99xx and enjoy the new awesome keyboard, the new web browser, the Universal Search with voice search, the touch screen, etc. and forget about the QNX phones until they actually are available. Don't worry about QNX phones right now focus on the known first before the unknown. It'll keep you young.

I will buy used so all the suckers that bought retail can take the financial hit for me. Then I'll sell it after a few months and basically use the phone for free.

You can keep your unlimited plan and upgrade. You just can't alter your plan or have tethering.

I have never been a fan of subsidized handsets. I almost always buy from a small retailer rather than lock myself into a contract with a device I do not own.

With RIM's new trade up options, I'll save on deal as well. With my trade in and promotional credit, well, once they update the eligible handsets.

Contract here. I give up devices after a year anyways, but I do have an upgrade ready on the account! Just want to know, however, who could wait even looonger for these dang phones in order to buy a used device. I couldn't wait even one day after it hits my carrier. Hah.
