how can i play divx files off my pc onto my bb or what do i need to convert them to
Prism video converter, from Video Converter. Convert avi wmv mov & more with Video Conversion Software. Click Video options, check Resize Video, set the resize to 480x360. Click OK to save. Go into encoder options, click Video Compression Settings... Set bit rate between 256 and 512 kb/s. Click OK to save. Set Output format to AVI in main window.

where do i choose the bit rate?
Is the file size small when u convert it and does it take long to convert?
File size depends on compression settings.

if they are already in avi format do i still need to convert them? where do i choose the bit rate?
Already in AVI means it just gets compressed. I do this with files recorded on my digital camera all the time. I posted a reply on what to adjust.

i know u did but i dont see the spot on the app to adjust the bit rate. i resized fine.
