I recently retired my 9700 and upgraded to the 9780. I took my old 9700 off my BES account and I wiped all the data to start from fresh factory settings.
The problem is my bbm backup files have .REM extensions, so I know they are encrypted.
The content was encrypted using a device generated key.
Why cant I use my encrypted files? I am using the same device and password!
Since you wiped it, the keys are lost, meaning your BBM history/data is lost too. There probably is a way to decrypt, but I have no idea how to do it. I don't use encryption on the media card because of obvious consequences (photos/videos/music downloaded/made on the device becoming useless). If somebody on here is more knowledgeable on this decrypting thing, they'll tell you. Until then, you're out of luck
