Hi!

The umts cell tower near my home is having problems (no data and dropped calls). While I'm waiting for the carrier to repair the tower, I would like to connect to the nearby cell that works perfectly (but the signal strenght is a bit lower than the problematic one's, so my phone won't connect to it). I can't revert to 2g because I have an umts only carrier.

How can I lock my phone to any cell tower? Through the engineering screen it is possible in a gsm 2g network, but I can't figure out how to do it in 3g.

Does anyone have the answer?

dont think it is possible your phone will automatically connect to the nearest available tower.

I'm not sure if it's the nearest tower, or the tower with the strongest signal (9 times out of 10, that's going to be the one closest to you.)

I don't know of a way to force it to lock onto one tower over another.

I can suggest that you go into Connection Manager, toggle the radio off and back on and see if it makes your connection JUMP to another tower. It's a crap shoot, but that's all I can offer.
