Nonsense..... From my Playbook with the same spec camera.
It's totally dependent on the distance from the object and the amount of light.

And a lot of these PB photos are taken with the device resting on a table etc. A bit hard to do with a phone.

Camera quality should be the same as the playbook. Software should improve it.

    Picture:
    9900/9930 < [9810/9850/9860 (because of auto focus)]

    Video:
    9810/9850/9860 < [9900/9930 (because of all focus)]

So video should be better for 9900/9930 than the 9810/9850/9860.

What camera settings did you use for the book picture? Does it have a close up camera setting?

Wow you can't even read that page. It looks like you took a pic with the 85xx curves or something....if hardcore bb users think that's acceptable than something is clearly wrong

I can live without an auto-focus camera but that outside photo looks absolutely terrible. It's something you would expect on a low-entry phone like the Curve but on a Bold?

I really thought we would get something similar to the Playbook camera but I guess that was too much to ask.

I am HOPING (but doubt it) the newer builts have a different camera lens...

There have been a couple of reviews based on review units and none of them so far mentioned the camera. I think the camera and the software for it are not optimal yet. Why don't we sit still and wait (::I actually can't but I'll try: for an official review from Kevin. We are only a few days away...

Pictures in this thread remind me of pictures taken with an iPhone 3. Atrocious. I don't give much importance to the camera in my cell phones but this is ridiculous. Surely the phone will ship with a better camera or the software will be improved.

Software will not magically bring Auto Focus to the 9900.

I'm hoping there is a close up mode for this phone... For the love of god this camera needs to be good. All this wait and the camera is a bust? Oh noes....

I think people are getting worried about nothing. The camera is going to work just fine. Not great but good. Guess we will all see for ourselves soon. Still very excited for this phone

I agree. Plus being an engineering or test unit it's possible this camera is not production spec?

It's worse than terrible and that's the type of picture a business phone needs to be able to render well. He might have left the protective plastic over the camera eye and since he is the only one who was willing to share some pictures we just don't know.

I mention the plastic ovrer the camera because I did that once LOL. It happens. But yes, the camera on RIM's flagship gets a total "F" from me at this point based off the pictures I've looked at so far - my Bold 9650 takes MUCH better pictures.
