Can somebody give me some guidance on how to sync my Blackberry with Google Calendar? On my Curve it was really easy. Within Calendar I would press the menu button and "Google Sync" would be one of the options. That is not the case with my new Bold. All the discussions I have managed to find are about apps or syncing with Google Talk or Google Mail, neither of which I have.

If I remember correctly, google sync will no longer be supported for Blackberry. Your other option is to login directly into your BIS and sync your calendar via your gmail email address.
    Hope this makes sense.

My understanding was that Google no longer had an app for this because Blackberry has its own app. Certainly on my Curve, there was no need to download an app as it was all built in. I can't log on using Gmail as I don't have a Gmail address.

Make a Gmail address just for calendar purposes ... it takes about 20 seconds to make one.

You can still find the Google Sync app if you search. I'd search for you but I'm on wap.

I had Google Sync on my BlackBerry but have since deleted it and I use BIS sync.

I'm slowly getting rid of all Google products that I use.

Warning re: Google calendar sync on your 9790. I've had nothing but a huge headache with this when trying to sync with our corporate Gmail calendar. It creates duplicate entries in one or the other location, and sometimes when you accept an invitation on your BB it does not accept in GCal, causing you to potentially miss a meeting. I've done a search for similar issues because my IT department ran into a dead end with Google support on this, and found an interesting thread. So although it's supposed to work, I just want to warn you it's not always 100% reliable.

Chrissy, I am not sure what you mean by saying I can find it if I search. Search where? Are you talking about a downloadable app or something resident on the Blackberry?

This seems so bizarre. I have the username and password, so I can easily find my Google Calendar using the browser.

But it doesn't work. What it describes as a successful sync does not involve transferring any data.

followed the instructions from the link in the post above, and it worked great Funny thing is that BlackBerry (via twitter) told me that there was no way to do this with out using active sync. Guess they need to read their own knowledge base's.

My Blackberry Bold calendar entries are still not appearing on other Google calendars. I did everything the instructions said . .
updating device set-up etc etc etc. Have you found a solution?

I was getting very frustrated with this problem but there is an easy solution. you will have a gmail account associated with your google calendar. Add the google account to the list of email accounts your blackberry manages(BB has a special functionality for gmail accounts). In the setup for the gmail account there is a checkbox for syncing google calendar (the one associated with the gmail account just entered) with your BB calendar, ensure it is checked and you are good to go.

More details can be found here: KB24204-How to enable or disable calendar synchronization with an integrated Gmail email account

I have a commercial gmail account (company account, paid) and I don't have the option you describe, to synchronize the calendar.
I also have an outlook.com account, and again the calendar and contacts list does not synchronize.

Does not the Bold sync automatically (perhaps only one way - not sure) if you set up your BIS email to include your Goggle email account? Of course, your Google Calendar has to be under the Goggle email you are setting up on BIS.

Mine seems to, but I'm not sure if it is only 1 way, i.e., from Bold to Goggle account.

My contacts seem to sync as well. This started when I set up my Google email address on my Bold. I don't use it often, but it happens to be attached to my Google Calendar.

Perhaps I'm totally wrong here. Just inquiring.

    Not sure.

I just tested it both ways.

I have my Google calendar set up under my Google email. I have my Google email set up on my Bold under the standard email BIS. When I put items in my Bold, they automatically sync to my Google calendar now. And they DO sync back as well - both ways. I just checked. When you set up a task or event on your bold, at the top, you can choose the sync = Gmail will be there. It's auto on mine since I don't have anything for Yahoo or other calendars.

When I set up a contact, this auto syncs to Google as well.

None of this happened until I set up my gmail account on my BIS.

WHEN you set this up, make sure you go under "SYNCRONIZATION" on your Berry. It is an option when you are actually setting UP your google email account on the handheld. Click on the items you want synced. Voila! It's done!

    From the Web:
BlackBerry Internet Service 3.2 Introduces Google Calendar Sync.
RIM rolled out BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 3.2 in North America, and it introduced two-way Google Calendar synchronization. With the addition of Google Calendar Sync, BlackBerry users will no longer need to use the Google Sync application to keep their contacts and calendar in sync on their devices.

Not sure what you mean by setting up gmail account under BIS... is there any other way to set up an email account on the BB?
I assume I set it up the right way, through BIS together with my @rogers.blackberry.net account, but I do not have the option to sinchronize the calendar.
I live in Canada and my provider is Rogers Wireless.
    WTF!

OK, my guess is you don't have syncronization set up in your BIS. BIS simply means BlackBerry Internet Service. It's how your BlackBerry communicates. I state BIS so that those using a 3rd party email program that does NOT use BIS won't get confused. IF you are using the email program that came with your Blackberry, you are using BIS.

Look under your icons, make sure you look "ALL" choose "SETUP". It's the BlackBerry looking icon with a green Star on it.
    Then choose email account.
Then choose your google account - choose EDIT
Scroll to the bottom and choose SYNCRONIZATION OPTIONS

make sure ALL THREE Syncs are checked and click save

    You are done!

    OK, let's try something here.

You say "I have a commercial gmail account (company account, paid) and I don't have the option you describe, to synchronize the calendar.
I also have an outlook.com account, and again the calendar and contacts list does not synchronize."

Perhaps this is the problem. I am not familiar with "Commercial" Gmail accounts. I want to be clear here, you are trying to sync to a commercial account and you are showing us screens where you are working with a Gmail Email, yes? It actually says [email protected], right? You can't sync anything BUT a Gmail email account on your BIS to a Gmail Calendar. It won't work. You don't have to use the Gmail email account, but you need it set up on your BlackBerry to Sync your Calendars and Contacts. You should have a Gmail email account linked to your Gmail Calendar, so I am assuming this is the email account you are working with in your screens. I'm not tying to be petty, just making sure. And, heaven forbid, perhaps the architecture of a "Commercial" Gmail account is throwing in a wrench we do not know about... at our level.

    But read on, assuming we can effect change here;

You are doing everything correct. (sorry, yes, the icon for setup looks like a BlackBerry with a green "Gear" on my phone, not a star).

IF you are trying to sync any email account OTHER than GMAIL, you will NOT have the option to sync anything but "Deleted Items" or "Contacts". It depends on the email you are trying to set up. I have THREE email accounts. One Gmail, one Yahoo, one one my own personal email from a private domain (pop). When I try and edit Sync on the private domain, I can only sync "DELETED ITEMS", just like your screen is showing. Obviously, your screen shows the only option for syncing to be "Deleted Items" which is the default for certain NON Gmail accounts. So, either you are trying to sync a non Gmail account, OR, somehow your BIS email is not registering your Gmail account as a Gmail account. What is also odd to me is that in your picture showing the edit screen your email address (at the top) is being presented as: @xxxx with NOTHING before the @ sign. Mine comes up with [email protected] xyz being my user name. Something is obviously really funky here because it is clear to me the handheld and the BIS is NOT registering your email account as a GMAIL account. OR - and I don't think this is possible, Rogers has not implemented BIS 3.2 (or higher) on your service. I'd guess that the BIS service version comes directly from RIM on their servers, and that it's not pushed by the service providers. But I'm not a RIM nor a Rogers BIS engineer.

Try DELETING YOUR Gmail email address on your handheld. Then try adding your Gmail address ON YOUR HANDHELD. If this does not work, then I'd call Rogers. Tell them you don't have Gmail SYNC on your handheld and that you know that as of BIS 3.2 Gmail Sync was included. I'm not sure on Rogers, but on T-Mo you would have to be transferred to a BlackBerry "Specialist' to even approach this kind of BIS architecture discussion.

Let us know how you make out. I know this stuff can be a PITA. Hang in there.

    Believe me I tried everything.
"Commercial" means gmail for business, paid; used with your own domain name, but still a gmail account; and since it is paid, there are applications included unlike with a free account.
I tried my free gmail account too, calendar does not synchronize.
What you mention is the name of the account, @mycompanyname.com using the gmail engine.
I deleted my account, I wiped my device and done a clean install, still no other synch options than deleted mail.
Email works fine and that is all that matters but I would have liked to have the other options working, too. In the almost 1 year since I have the device, it never worked.
Not a big deal, just a frustration.

    EPILOGUE:
I fixed it, but I had to create another BB ID, and calendars and contacts synchronize now. However... I had some paid applications that I lost with the new ID.
Still, can't understand why it would not work with my long time ID.

There is probably an explanation that only a RIM engineer could explain but glad it is working for you!
Did you fix this solo or did Rogers/RIM help you through it?
