I'm sure this topic of discussion has been done to death. If anyone can point me to a good thread already addressing this issue and/or give me some advice, I'd appreciate it.

My boss has a Bberry Bold 9650 for Verizon.

A month or so ago, he was having a lot of trouble with "uncaught exceptions" and random freezing and slowness and restarting and all that good stuff.

I spent a lot of time talking to Verizon and RIM tech support and we got a replacement phone and we did all that jazz where we only restore the necessities and not the settings, etc, etc.

Cut to a month later, my boss has been using his new bb all this time and he's telling me that he still has problems with it. It's not quite as bad as it was at first, but it's still freezing and giving him uncaught exceptions. Also his messages list keeps freezing up or when he clicks messages it takes him to texts instead.

    Any thoughts? Tips? Ideas?

I'm patiently (sort of) waiting for the 9930 to come out so he can just upgrade and hopefully that will solve a lot of problems.

    THANKS!

Dlev, I'm fairly sure I understand this problem and its underlying root cause. Allow me to explain:

As a newbie user of a Blackberry, I loaded it up with facebook, linkedin and twitter utilities as well as some other programs that proved more troublesome and burdensome than they were worth.

Turns out my office is located in a cellular black hole. My Blackberry looks for facebook and twitter feeds it cannot get. When I emerge back into cell coverage, I get various freeze-ups, slowness and not commonly have to reboot the phone. Then I see the uncaught exception on reboot.

This never happens when my coverage is solid and stable. So it has something to do with the phone being on when taken out of range. My experiment will be to shut the damn thing off in the parking lot. But i am convinced that this is why.

Are your experiences similar? Hope this helps.

Update to bbm6....but it most likely a 3rd party app causing the problem, the only time I've had exceptions like that is on phones I've OTA updated and it created an app conflict, easily solved by deleting 3rd party apps and re-installing one at a time, rebooting after each to see if it creates a new error

Also, clean memory and pull battery more frequently

Your other option, and I don't know how flexible you are, but shrink and install sprint's 6.0.0.600 os, it runs super smooth on both of my 9650's

Have you checked the Event Log for a clue as to what is happening?

I'd advise against BBM 6, it's very laggy and drags everything down. 5.0.3.22 is a safer bet! Even the beta version 6.0.0.113 was beta than the hash released as "official" last week.

As for 600, it has it's share of bugs too.
