You have way too much free memory... Go now and install some more apps.. it will not slow down your phone.. Unless you are OCD with memory.. :D
57 apps (I use them all) 106,763,885 File Free
You guys have so much free memory . I have like 4 apps installed and only have about 105 MB of memory .
Sorry but I do not believe you use all 57 apps:eek:
AG puts his apps in rotation.
Some apps can have very large footprints. Slacker is 1.5MB's, while Tether is only 66Kbs (0.0659Mb's).
Believe what you wish but I am not an "app collector." If it is on my device it
has to be something I use. If it isn't, it's gone. :)
I have 35 apps total and 123 mb of free memory.
I have 15 apps (I use them all) and 107 mb of free memory. Last night I deleted all old apps, old texts, old emails, etc., because I was down to 88 mb. BlackBerry AppWorld was about tenish, as my phone was showing, and I wondered if it was saving stuff to my phone. I am OCD about memory - I like 100 mb. Haven't seen a difference thus far today though.

33 apps for me... and they aint small ones i still have 130MBs free (after all my little fixes i make to the OS before installing it)
This is crazy! You guys are so awesome. I got my BB last week, a 9700. I installed .680 from this site and had about 132 at the original boot. Something close to that if I recall.
Now I have 102 free. What's a good amount of free memory to target on this device, anyways? Does it mess it up to get below 100? Wish I could install to the SD...
I've loaded: BerryGreen Theme, Quicklaunch, AP Mobile News, Garmin Mobile, Poynt, WeatherEye, LifeInPocket, Google Maps, Vlingo, WifiFile Transfer, and a few games. I think I'm done with loading Apps. I like the way it is setup, although I could really have enjoyed a touch screen and slightly larger display w/o sacrificing this awesome form factor.
dont worry about it until you get to below 10MBs
37 apps/themes here and have 107 mb left. I don't do quickpull daily anymore cuz it doesn't work and honestly I'm not that OCD about it anymore because I have plenty to use.

How can you guys run so many apps with such large remaining memory? I am very much interested to know the "how to" here. Advise please.
What kind of "fixes" necessary before an install? and what kind of files do you normally remove, ie VVM, video, icons, wallpapers, games etc?
I am running .593 with standard set ups (no deletions, all games installed), two third party themes, two languages (English and simple Chinese), some 120 contacts in BBM (no BBM groups)....and I am constant at around 109MB all the time.
I know I should not worry too much as long as I stay above 10MB, but you know how it is with a new phone.....must understand tips and tricks from the masters.
Heard about Shrink OS, BBSAK, CrackMem etc. Never tried these before.
Open for suggestions.
Many thanks!
Agree - with last poster - how so little? Maybe using a shrinking package? Or BBSAK to remove unnecessary wallpapers locked, etc. into memory?
Also, just to make sure I understand - are you suggesting that there is no performance hit on my berry with 102 free vs. 50 free (as long as I am above 10 MB)?
True story. Now, if you have a lot of apps running, then that will rob you of processor cycles and will slow down the device. To see what's running, hold down your BlackBerry/Menu key for a couple of seconds and it will bring up the task switcher.
Berk,
That tip is awesome! I had the left side button assigned for application switcher. I didn't know you could achieve the same thing by pressing and holding the menu key from w/i any app to get the same result. That freed up my left side key for QuickLaunch and my right can be for Vlingo without loosing the application switch funcionality. Thanks allot! :)
This is by and large incorrect and it is because of the lack of understanding of
the difference between RUNNING and RESIDENT.
Just becuase an app appears in the the app ribbon does not mean it is running.
BBM is always there but unless you are in an active conversation it has a
negligible effect on memory. Same holds true for all others. If you are not using
them they are RESIDENT.
As an example, in addition to the 5 apps that are always in the app ribbon
I have 7 others that load on startup. They have little effect on my memory
and none on the device performance even after I open and use them.
