In my country, it was needed to pay an extra payment, for BBM service in BlackBerry 9700, in all the carriers, despite of the internet possession by the carrier. Now that BBM is launched in all iOS and Android system, should we pay again the extra payment for BBM in BlackBerry 9700 Bold?

    Welcome to the forums!

Yes. Legacy devices were made to work with BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). As far as we know, the need for BIS is baked into the OS and BBM will not work without it.

It is possible that they can update the code at some point to make it work with a generic plan, but right now, nothing changes for legacy devices.

Do you pay for BBM on top of data? If so, yes that is silly. Otherwise no, the cost makes sense.

No, BIS includes BBM and everything else legacy devices need to access in BlackBerry's servers.

Dear, thanks very much for the answers. Let's hope BlackBerry thinks about BBM free on legacy devices!

But it is included in the BIS plan. You don't pay any extra for it. And you'd need a data plan anyway.

Most of the times, BIS is cheaper than a generic data plan. It's just a bit annoying knowing that your data plan is "special". But that's about it.

So, either they manage to Re wrong BBOS to bypass the need of BIS for data altogether, or we can rule out "free" BBM. Which would still demand a data plan.

    There are no free dinners.
