When in Email set up i have only 1 option "i want to use a work email account with a blackberry enterprise server"
I got this 9700 off of a friend so have no manual and basically have not got a clue what i am doing, should there be more than 1 option??

You need to contact your carrier and ensure you are provisioned for Blackberry Data rather than a standard carrier data plan.

Once you are provisioned the appropriate settings will be pushed to your device and you will be able to go into Email Settings to setup your personal email accounts.

Yep. The lack of the Personal Email Setup option is indicative of not having the proper BlackBerry Data Plan (BIS) set up for the device.
