Just received a 9650 as a replacement for my Tour. I was surprised to find 'Bing' as the browser default search, and there is no option for Google under the search providers. Is this seriously the case?

No Bing is the default search. I bookmarked google and use it that way instead of Bing which I can't stand.
Every time I think blackberry is taking a step forward, they go right ahead and take 3 more back.
Yeah... isn't that really, really lame? I'd be po'ed if I found that out after I bought my phone.
It's a Verizon agreement with Bing... not BlackBerry.
Your best bet is to just make google your home page. Then go the the browser options and make the home page your start page.
oh, and the search function on a forum works even better.

Is BlackBerry responsible for making Bing the default search engines? Or, are the carriers responsible for pushing Bing on us? I've gotten around this lack of choice by setting up Web Search in Quick Launch and making Google the default search engine.

I believe if you check some of the thread links posted just before, you will find that Verizon and MS entered a multi-multi-millions-millions deal to force Bing down our throats.
Yep, its a carrier agreement. I'm with Sprint and I'm not locked into any specific search engine, and am I ever glad.
Try SearchIt app for BB menu system search options that cannot be beat.

Actually, that's what a useful post looks like.
Search first, then post. Which is kind of what I was hinting at when I posted the links!
