Why are my 9650's convenience keys styled differently? One is a bit more pronounced and easier to push ...

The right one is a two position button. You can press it in half way, then all the way.

By default, that's what your camera is set to. You're able to half press the button to focus the camera, then all the way to take the picture.

I keep mine key set to the camera, but I do believe you can use that right convenience key to operate the camera however it gets launched.

I had no idea about the two-position feature. That explains it. Thank you!

I had no idea that the button operated as a shutter release!

I have that button set to open email, so I assumed that it would certainly have no camera functions.

Once you open the camera, however you do so, you can then use that right key to focus and take the picture.
