I've heard mixed comments on it. Personally the G1
Trackball I got from CNN sucked. I get my replacement
8900 trackball from them tomorrow and a new G1 trackball
from Dealsishop wed. Mine felt real slippery, didn't want
to scroll in all directions. It was more effort trying to move it
around than my year old trackball on my Curve.

My G1 trackball that I got from cnn did not scroll very well to the left. i since ordered OEM 8900 trackballs from cnn and they worked a lot better.

I've had mine in for months, feels like OEM, never had an issue.

Same with me - I got mine from CNN and have had it in for about 6 months and have no complaints whatsoever. Every couple of weeks I shut down the Bold, take an alcohol prep pad put it over top of the trackball and just work it around for about a minute. Keeps everything rolling and tracking smoothly

    YMMV

My G1 trackball feels like crap. Its slippery most of the times but sometimes it feels OEM (rarely) I don't liike it and I'm currently using it now.. I'm about to buy an OEM one tonight.

I use it on my curve and it feels "grittier" than the OEM.

Yeah ! Same. Do you have to put a bit more force into it to scroll down?

My cnn g1 ball was horrible, it didn't like to scroll up, and was abnormally slippery. The 8900 balls are much better, IMO.

Are the 8900 trackballs the same as the bold 9000 ones?

They're black and they're the atomic trackball so its less likely to build up with dirt I believe. I felt the 8900 ball worked much better in my Bold than the original Bold tackball.
