Hi,
I have a Blackberry bold 9780 white.
The screen was cracked, so I got a new screen and replaced it following instructions on a Youtube video.
As you know, the installation is easy, so after thinking about it, I was careful and I think that I missed nothing... However, the new screen doesn't work!
By doesn't work, I mean that there is colors on the screen. I uploaded a picture so you can see what I'm talking about:
The old screen was a 402/444, and the new screen is a 002/111
According to my research, the screen should be compatible. ( I contacted the seller, and he told me that it's compatible.)
The seller also told me that the new screen is compatible with only the OS 5.0, NOT with 6.0 or higher.
There is another thing... When I first put the screen, and plugged it, I saw a little battery charging on the screen (a perfect picture displayed on a dark screen) [The phone was charging, and turned OFF.
But that was the only one time I saw that. After that, whenever I plug the phone to the cable, it turns ON, and shows those colors, and the bar on the bottom, is empty at the beginning, and then start charging (On the picture, it's at 50%)
Do you have any ideas?
And since I cannot use the new screen, or the old one (Because it's cracked) How can I know the OS version?
And does the 402/444 compatible with the newest OS ?
Ok, so that must be the problem.
The seller replied this to me
Thank you for your writing.
We have confirmed that the item can fit for your phone.
But we don't know your OS.
Could you pls install your old screen to check the OS?
Since I the old screen is cracked, do you know if there is any way to check the OS version without a screen ?
Because if I don't give them the OS version, they'll not accept to refund the shipping cost.

The OS version has nothing to do with the screen compatibility... they're talking rubbish.
You just need an exact serial match screen as your original one. That's it.
I don't know why on my browser it shows the price at 75$ and 40$ shipping. But I paid 35$ for it.
So, do you think I didn't order the right screen from the beginning ?
Strange!
According to the item description, you ordered the correct screen... but their warning in red about it only being compatible with OS5 is complete BS!
The 9780 is an OS6 phone, so either their item description is wrong or the screen isn't for a white 9780.
You should be able to return it because the screen you received was not the same serial number as the one stated in the listing, but you have however fitted it.

Ok, I see...
I contacted them back, and I'm waiting for a reply.
Can someone explaine why the serial numbers have to match? Is it a software thing? Or a LCD/mother board match? Just confussed because I'm looking to buy a black replacement screen for my previously white 9780.

Hi, I have the same problem with a new screen bought on ebay. I ordered (and as far as I can read I have received the item with) the exact serial number of the screen device (thats 02/111). Once I put the new lcd screen, I got the same image as you did. I really dont know what is the problem. Before I bought the item I asked the seller if it works on OS 6.0 and he told me it would work fine.
One thing that might be important is that it is not an OEM item but an alternative one. I think Ill try buying an original product and see if that works.
Did you happen to purchase from a Chinese company on EBAY? i will tell you i had the same problem with 3. 9700s i purchased screens from Ebay too and Chinese factory.. the reason you see lines and snow is because those screens will only accept OS5 the 9700s and 9780s have the same numbered screens...
i have done repairs to both models its best to purchase from a proper cell phone repair shop in your town...
Very frustrating i know
Good Luck
Yes, I bought the screen to a Hong Kong seller on Ebay. Its strange because I asked him before buying if it was suitable for OS 6 and he said yes. Ive asked for refund.
Let me ask you a question: in those cases you mention (screen not designed for OS 6), did you fix the trouble replacing the faulty screen with (an original or not) one suitable for OS 6??
Hi
All i could do is sell the 3.. 9700s i had and install OS5 as that company would not take them back the also told me would work with OS6 too...anyway the people that took them did not care but i did purchase proper screens for a few others since that from a proper dealer with no problems only a bit more price wise.
Well worth it though.
Good luck
Totally the same thing happened to me Bought a screen from ebay.co.uk (seller from Honk Kong). Been waiting for the LCD for 2 month, because I'm from Lithuania.... ((
Like I see the only one thing is try to install OS.5 on my phone, don't it?

You can't install OS 5 on a 9780. Try getting a refund.
