I asked a question a few days ago on which was the better phone between the Curve 8900 and the Bold 9700. I have finally decided to go with the 9700.

As I am buying the 9700 I am wondering if there is any difference in whether I was to buy one on my network which is T-Mobile or if it would matter if I bought one that is unlocked and opened to all networks.

What would the difference in these be?

    Thanks

If you buy unlocked (AT&T, Rogers) it will NOT have 3G unless you buy a T-Mobile version.

    No T-Mobile device, NO 3G.

Tmobile will give you a discount too, if you are willing to sign a contract.

    Thanks, i'll do that.

Once I buy the T-Mobile 9700 is it ok for me to buy a code from T-Mobile and get it unlocked? Nothing would change on it would it?

    Thanks

why would you want unlock it if you don't plan to use any other network/carrier? Unlocking wouldn't change any functionality of the device.

At first I didnt believe the "3G" Hype but I got my BB 9700 and it is fast!!! I had an unlocked Storm and a Curve 8320 before that.

I've just finished eating lunch, so my brain isn't working. So an unlocked ATT or Rogers' BB9700 won't have 3G (HSDPA) but a locked version will? But the TMO version will have it regardless.

If you buy a AT&T one for use on T-Mobile not it will not have 3G or vice-versa because the 3G frequencies are not the same. Let us know if you need it unlocked.

Your carrier generally will unlock it for free.
