I cant afford B10 right now, and im thinking about buying this one. would you recommend it? because, even though I love bb phones Ive had various problems with all of them- battery drains, random reboots, I even had white screen of death

    I'm in a similar situation.
I'm using a two year old 9780 and want to have a new one.
On the one hand I'm very interested in the new BB10 devices, but on the other hand I'm not willing to pay those prices. So I thought about buying a 9790 or a 9900.
I mostly use my 9780 for Calendar, Tasks, Mail, BBM and reading news.
What do you think? Does it make sense to buy another nearly two year old phone? Or should I wait until the BB10 devices are cheaper?

We have a pair of 9900 phones in the family. Going strong without issues. Not getting an upgrade anytime soon. The device is plenty good enough to last until other phones are more affordable. Recommended here.

The used prices of the 9900 is an incredible bargain if you shop around and find one in like new shape. It will be a year or more until you see any significant price change on a Z10.

I say go for it. The 9900 is still an awesome device. I use one as my personal device and I have the Z10 on my work account. I still have trouble putting my 9900 down even when it's sitting right next to the Z10..lol

I've had my 9900 since last summer, still in love with it. I must have read every review here on the Z10 and still haven't been swayed away from my 9900.

For me and what I do this phone and OS is timeless. As I've posted before I am considering stocking up on 1 or 2 more 9900's just in case.

The only real issue I've had is on the carrier end when they don't issue timely OS updates.

That sounds very fair. But I'm from Munich, so I will buy it in Germany.

Thanks to all for your answers! I think my next BlackBerry will be a 9900.

    I went from 9780 to 9900...

it was like NIGHT and DAY. I used it for the same stuff you do, and I was just faster, and more efficient

I tried the z10 for 7 days and today I returned it. For how I use a communication device, I like the 9930 more than the z10. I use a 7 inch tablet for an internet device. When the q10 comes out I'd like to try it, but if my favorite apps are not native, then maybe I'll may wait for a 2nd generation playbook.

Still fiinding new uses for my 9900 more than a year from purchase. Interested in the Q10 when it comes out, but it going to have to be really good to beat my Bold.

Just like me, 7 days or so, returned Z10, ordered 9900.
I totally agree on Q10 as well, but I would not try it, knowing what is missing from BB10, and things are not being fixed on 10.1, keyboard shortcuts are coming, but their list did not indicate if those will work differently on e-mail (similar to 9xxx).
Anyway, will wait for Q10 / 10.2 or til end of the year, and I really hope 9900 does not disappoint me, I hope I don't get one from the bad batch...

PS: Why don't I see "Favorite Apps for 9900" or "for 7.1" thread around here? What do you all use on your 9900's? I am sure there has to be a thread going on, but it is probably buried by now.

If you do go for a 9900 i'm sure you'll be happy with it. This is my first Blackberry for some time (bought it last week) and I'm very pleased with it. It runs so smoothly, the build quality is excellent and the keyboard is comfortably the best I've ever used on a phone. No doubt in my mind that I'll be keeping this for the remaining 15 months of my contract before going to the Q10.

I changed from iPhone and surprisingly I've not been yearning for lost apps. Instead I've been wondering how I ever got by without BBM and the emailing on the 9900.

Still love my 9900 even though I switched to the Z10. Absolutely hands down the best full physical qwerty device on the market. With the newer 7.1 OS's battery pulls and/or reboots are few and far between, although they still happen from time to time. Never had an issue with my 9900. FYI, never wait for your carrier to push out an OS update, just follow the threads on how to load an OS and enjoy the newer 7.1 OS's that some carriers have yet to release.

Pulled my old 9900 out the other day to play with it, the only thing I miss on my Z is the great keyboard, although I think the screen size and overall fluidity of the Z makes up for the missing physical keyboard.

Honestly, Z10's keyboard is so good, I can type a lot faster, sometimes I type gibberish (with keys to the left or right of what I want to press) it picks up. I never bothered to backspace or correct even after I realized I was mistyping. I can even go far enough to say Z10's keyboard is better/faster than 9700.
