I searched the thread but didn't see this answered, forgive me if I missed it.

Would you BUY a refurbished 9700 for $29.99 or BUY new for $99.99?

    Thanks

If it was me... I'd buy new, only b/c I'd hate to hassle with a possible problem with a refurb phone. My partner had bad experiences with refurb phones so I tend to buy new.

I've had better luck with refurbs. I usually get new, but when something happens to it they replace with a refurb. I don't have the option if I get new or refurbished when I upgrade

I just bought Refurb from AT&T (two-three weeks old) The Refurb was $49.99 and the New was $199 with the contract extension.

I figured if the refurb does break and I do need to put in a claim it'll be the same price as new. ($49 refurb + $150 claim = $199 total).

Mine came without a scratch on it, works perfect and has a screen protector already on. the $50 out right now was worth the gamble to me since I'm protected with the insurance.

I would take a refurb over brand new any day. Refurbs usually go through more extensive test than brand new which usually go through a batch test(taking one or two out of the production and testing and if they pass so does the whole batch).
    That's just my two cents

In the Uk refurb is a no brainer, you have the same consumer rights so effectively the same phone for loads less cash.

Refurb here, works like a charm I wouldn't trade it for anything. Then again, I upgraded to it for only a penny so worst comes to worst I go back to my curve

My new 9700 had a myriad of problems, the refurb they sent me was absolutely perfect, that is until I broke the screen

i got my refurbished 9700 from ATT for 1 cent and it had the headset jack problem but they replaced it and everything has been great since. my first blackberry was an 8100 three years ago and i also got that refurbished from ATT. it still works like "new" to this day.

If the warranty on a refurbished phone is the same as the new phone, there is no reason not to save some bucks and go for the refurb.
