    I have a 8900 now w/o a data plan, but tomorrow I will be adding ATT's new $15/mo 200mb data plan.

Since the 8900 does not have 3g, I would like to switch to a 3g equipped device.

Through Premier, I can purchase an 9700 at the no-commitment price of $200. The features on the new revised 9700 are tempting, but I only plan to hold onto the phone for about a year and I am not sure how much the no-committment price will be for the new 9700?

So, do you folks think it would be a good idea for me to purchase a 9700 now through premier, or just wait for the new one?

    Thanks.

I think you should wait for the 9800 which is the slider. Its a fact that its coming to AT&T and that its coming soon.

The thing is, I only plan to hold onto this phone for another year, tops. Since I am not subsidized for an upgrade, I really don't want to spend a boatload on a short-term phone either. Does anyone know what the price of the new 9800 will be?

I have a 9700 black AND a white one too. So needless to say-- I love the phone. I can honestly say it's the best BB ever, and I've used it all. The build quality is inconsistent but nothing that'll drive you nuts.
So to answer the question. The 9700 blows the pants off ur 8900 hands down, so go forr it. But if you can hold off just a liiiiiiiitle longer-- wait for the 9800. It shouldn't be that far off.

With all of the competition out there I would speculate that the 9700 refresh would probably cost you the same $350 off contract as the current one does.

That's still a good $150 more than what I'd pay for a new 9700 off Premier right now.

I got mine from Premier the a week before it was in stores...you would have to wait at least 90-180 days after release to get that extra $200

Either go with the 9800 of the 97xx refresh when it drops.

Pulled the trigger on the 9700 last week, and I wouldn't be able to get the 9700 refresh for under retail since I used my upgrade for th 8900 last year. I paid $200 for a brand new 9700 from someone who wanted an iPhone. And no I don't like the 9800.
