Love the Bold, and it works great. However, when I plug in my 8GB microSD card, the whole thing goes to ****. Navigating the icons becomes very slow, and the battery life is much worse.

    My version number is:

    v4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.157)

Anyone have thoughts on why this is doing this?

When inserted, the card must be scanned. This takes several minutes, depending on the size of the card and the amount of media. Insert the card, open Media, and watch the progress bar at the bottom. When it's done, your Bold should return to normal speed.

    Ok, that makes sense.

I have 7.1GB on the 8GB card, so I guess that could take a while.

On the media screen, it does say 'scanning' right now, but the blue progress bar is completely full and the triangle indicator is on the farthest right part of the screen. It seems like it is hung doing the scanning.

Maybe open the music player or pictures and see if it completes.

As a test, the items that you use for Wallpaper and ringtones, you should copy to the devices memory, thus not using the card at all (unless you specifically go into it).

After trying that, is it any better?

It must have something to do with what is on the card itself. I formatted the card, so it is now empty, and everything is working fine.

I will try putting on less music and see if I can track down the error.

    Thanks again!

    Update your OS, just because...

Second I would format the card as Fat32/32k cluster size.

What class is the card? I noticed mine was sluggish when I was using a class 2. I went and got a class 6 and it's faster.

Doesn't matter for operating in the phone. It will only ready at Class 2 speeds.

So if the card is full, it slows down?

No, it shouldn't. The only time it should slow down is when it re-scans the card after a restart.

Yep. Mine's still fast and about 5GB of stuff.

Interesting tip about keeping wallpapers/ringtones on device memory, should this enhance performance?

Another thing is that the newer firmware OS updates scan the card so much faster than the one that was preloaded out of the box.

I went back to the original ROM once and couldn't believe how slow the scanning was.

When I insert my memory card, it just says card inserted? And no scan?
