My AT&T upgrade opportunity comes up in less than two weeks. Any thoughts on buying one or the other? It seems that RIM is always coming out with a new phone everytime I have an opportunity to upgrade.

just buy one from the marketplace for now, this way you can keep your upgrade. but there will always be new blackberry's coming out, you can get a bold at a good price and when your upgrade comes try somethin else
Not really an option. However, you do make a good point. I would still like to get clarification. Is the Onyx an update of the Curve? If so, I will go with the BOLD. Who is to say that an upgrade to the BOLD won't be out at my next upgrade opportunity. I made a mistake getting a Moto Q9h when it first came out.
Onyx is the next Bold

Onyx is not a replacement for the Bold. It is the next in the Bold series. 9000, 9020, etc

You guys are making decision more difficult. The BOLD is a significant step up from the Curve. What are the rumored functional advantages of the Onyx versus the BOLD?
Is it a sure thing the onyx will be on att?

Its not a sure thing it will be launched at all. Hasnt be announced
True. Point taken. Anything negative about BOLD? I have heard of batteries overheating as well as browser issues. Is the Opera browser the default browser or is it a 3rd party software? If 3rd party, are there any conflicts or can the AT&T browser be disabled?
Onyx is like the Curve with Bold functions but better. Too small for me, but ill wait for a future Bold 2 when, and IF it comes to frution.
In any case, its not even know to when the phone is coming out, its just a beta phone. It could get scratched all together and possibly never come out.

Thanks very much. I feel better about my decision to get the BOLD. But what about the battery overheating and the browser question?
Read my other post, I have used my bold more then anything. Never a bettery problem, or browser problem

Will take a look. Is the Opera a 3rd party? Sorry for the still newbie like question??
Yea opera is a 3rd party....,never had a problem with the battery problem. Its an amazing phone. You can't go wrong with the bold

Would you guys use a 3rd party browser?
NO battery problems at all!
Out of all the BB's I had in the past 6 months, the Bold has had the best battery life, even better than my 8900.
The browser is OK at best ( this goes for all BB browsers) but it does the job.
I've tried opera and bolt and in the end i still go back to the BB browser. i'm not a fan of browsers that show the full page with a box to highlight just a piece of the page. plus i prefer the shortcut keys of the BB browser. just my opinion. it's really a personal preference. since bolt and opera are free, give them a whirl and see what you prefer. there's another 3rd party browser coming out (surefire, strikefire, something like that).
Waiting for the next real revolutionary phone from RIM and not just a upgarde to the bold. Had the bold since launch and I love it....get the bold!!! Wait for a real update in technology from rim like touch qwerty or better!

Skyfire. I believe that it is still in alpha testing. No release date for a while. I imagine.
Same Usage on the two devices I get 6 hours longer on the 8900 than the 9000 both with out of the box specs (sans OS).
500 emails sent/received
300-400 PIN messages sent/received
100 sms messages sent/received
2 hours talk time
2 hours of browsing full HTML (not WAP)
I'm in the same boat couldn't I take my sim card out of my iphone buy a bold from the marketplace put it into the bold have my same plan except change my iphone data plan to the blackberry plan and everything will be all fine and dandy? Plus keep my upgrade which comes in september for me?

Question is, what do u really want from a new bold that a new browser and 5.0 will not provide?
Being a compressed browser, memory will be less of an issue than the iphone

FWIW, you don't have to run Opera that way. I don't like those boxes either, but if you set it to "Mobile View" and "Fullscreen Mode", it doesn't do that. Everything fits perfectly on the screen with no left/right scrolling.
What I like even better is that you can scroll left/right to page up/down. Better than using the space bar for page down and scrolling or shift/space to page up.
@OP...the Bold is the best by far. No battery problems whatsoever...don't hesitate.
Yea for some reason MY 8900 needed a charging every night.
The Bold will go 2 days before needing a charge ( same usage). Go figure
