I'm not trying to be facetious, but would really like to know what justifies the 2-year contract price of the Bold ($299) to be more than any other BlackBerry (49-199). I'm thinking of upgrading from my Curve.

No...I mean WHY is it $100 more than any other BlackBerry, including the Tour? I'm just trying to find out what the justification is. Bigger keyboard, display, what? It's not that different in features than the Curve 8900, for example.

No matter what anyone says, it's the flagship of Blackberry devices at the moment.

    That's why.

If you really look you'll find it with a 2-year contract for cheaper in places like
    amazon.com, wirefly.com, or even Wal-Mart.

Bold has wifi also. They had a ton of promos though, free refurb bold, bold for $199 after rebate, etc.

The bold is hardly a device to complain about the price compared to most other BB's since they had so many deals.

    I don't know what you're talking about. I paid $157.81 (after taxes) with a renewed 2-year contract with AT&T.

The price changes periodically depending on what specials they are running. I got mine for $99 ($199 with a $100 rebate) on an upgrade. 2 days later it was $199 after rebate.

Yup. And, there's probably some forces trying to get a lower price point on the Tour (like heavier subsidization). That way, the CDMA carriers can get in on the latest RIM device and not get left behind by those GSM carriers carrying the Bold.

I just left the local AT&T store (actual store...not a kiosk) and it was $299 for a new customer 2-yr contract. I will be leaving VZW.

Just shop around. amazon.com and Wal-Mart have it a lot cheaper. There are probably other places that are cheaper than the AT&T store as well.

Thanks to everyone for all the great input...I probably would have sprung for the $299 2-yr contract had I not posted here originally. It seems like wireless.amazon.com has the best deal at $50 for a new 2-year AT&T contract. Is there any downside to that, or the local Wal-Mart deal (if I have to have it right away)? I want to purchase the phone now, try it for 30 days, and still have the option to return it if I'm not happy, though I'm sure i will be.

Oops...red flag! The Amazon and Wal-Mart prices (and probably other discounted prices) have a clause stating you must keep the line for a minimum of six months...read no returns :-(

I just found it online at Wal-Mart for FREE, and if I don't like it I can return it to any Wal-Mart within 14 days. This looks like the best deal out there. And...the discounts are instant, not mail-in.

Yep, I got mine from Walmart for $148 for a 2yr upgrade. Never buy from AT&T. You can almost always find it cheaper from somewhere else. AT&T only cares about keeping your service with them. 3rd party stores care about selling you a phone.

I too bought my bold for $427. There was supposed to be a $100 rebate, but I wasn't eligible for some reason.
    Still in love though
