    It's all there!!!!!
His phone is back! ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜ญโค

I tried changing the message saving options and I do not see Message display and options anywhere... I did end up running a complete restore before I saw your message, Lex24. Do you think I need to run another restore, this time being sure Message List Options is not selected? I was also wondering if the setting is not changed will the messages continue to delete after I eventually disconnect his number or is that only an issue while his number is still active?

    1) You need to find the setting which controls "Days To Keep Messages" and set it to "Forever". Otherwise the messages will get deleted, regardless if the phone is connected to AT&T network or not. I'm afraid that some older messages might have actually never got restored, you just didn't notice this.

On my BB9320 with the same OS 7.1.01098 the setting can be found as shown below. It might be a bit different on BB9900, maybe someone else could help with this:

    - on the Home screen click on Messages icon
    - hit Menu key and scroll to Options
    - open Message Display and Actions
    - scroll to the bottom
    - Days To Keep Messages: Forever

    2) Once the above is done you should restore the following three items:

    - Messages
    - SMS Messages
    - Text Messages

If there are any duplicate messages then delete all messages and restore again.

    3) Run the backup of the new phone with BB Desktop Software.

    4) If you did the "complete" restore then some components of the latest OS build shipped with the new phone were overwritten with their older versions from the old phone. As a result the connection to BlackBerry World might not work, some websites won't open in the browser, etc. But that's not really important in this particular case.

I don't have a 9900 with 1098 handy but just checked this 9930 with 1066 (latest VZW) and verified that "Days to keep messages" is where @Lex24 described. My recollection is that 9900 with 1098 is also the same but no way to personally verify out here. Highly likely, tho. Fwiw.

I'm really sorry, I just don't see it. The pictures above are what the Messaging Options look like, from what I've found I cannot locate "message display and options" anywhere.

You click on the wrong icon, which is named:

    Text Messages

You need to click on the icon named:

    Messages

Rapid press "M" key from home screen should bring up "Messages". Depending on speed dial settings.

"M" key won't work out of the box. Home screen keyboard shortcuts are disabled by default and Universal Search is enabled instead. To get the shortcuts enabled you need to go to:

    - options icon
    - display
    - home screen preferences
    - launch by typing
    - select: application shortcuts

Here is the list of all shortcuts:

    A - address book
    B - web browser
    C - address book
    D - memos
    H - help
    K - phone lock
    L - calendar
    M - emails
    O - options
    P - phone
    S - universal search
    T - tasks
    U - calculator
    V - saved emails

    Plus less important shortcuts:

    G - Google Talk
    N - BBM
    X - Windows Live Messenger

Also, this one works regardless if home screen shortcuts are enabled or not:

A (press and hold) - keyboard lock

Ha! Goes to show how long it's been since this 8 yr old 9930 was "out of the box"... Lol.

    Good info for all... Thanks.
