I've been on the 2gb plan since i got my 9810 and havent even came close to a gb let alone 2. I'm always bbming, surfin the web, emailing. Dont really stream much unless I'm on wi-fi. Unlimited is overrated on a BB
My next billing cycle starts in 10 days and, since I have been roaming internationally, I restricted my data consumption. My "Current Usage Summary - Data" shows three columns with the following information:

    Data: 127.72 MB
    Data: 5.24 MB
    Messaging: 230

Why two columns for data usage? Am I supposed to add both to get my actual data usage?

Yeah, that's cool, but how many times do you have to give up something to get something in return? If they cap it at 2GB now and that is fine for the average user then what happens next time when it gets capped at 1GB and they don't carry over your current 2GB plan that you got with your 9810? Is it gonna be OK then? Do you really think the executive officers at ATT really need any monies they are able to scrape out of slimy deals like this? Stuff like this doesn't get completely absorbed by network upgrades, maintainence, and marketing. It goes directly upstairs to the one percenters. Is that inline with all the mumbo jumbo we keep hearing about, where "ATT wants a better product for their customers"?

    No

If you don't like Att and how they operate there buisness you could always go to Sprint (unlimited data) I'm saying to use over 2gb of data on a bb you would have to use it as a lap top. Its almost impossible to hit the 2gb unless you stream all day or dont have internet at home.

Just look at the very last column i believe. I'm only at 22.48 mb with 17 days to go.

As mentioned, I use my phone and Playbook heavily during the workweek and come nowhere near my limit, some are just wanting to hold on to the unlimited plan because of the principle of it, not because they actually use it.
It is more than a matter of principle. The rights and obligations of wireless telecommunications companies and its subscribers should be governed by contracts rather than by arbitrary policies based on business decisions that wireless telecommunications companies may decide to change unilaterally from time to time. Moreover, allowing wireless telecommunications companies to use a change in device as a pretext for forcing subscribers to forfeit their grandfathered data service plans may have the effect of discouraging the adoption of new technologies.

In my case, not allowing me to retain my unlimited data plan caused me to walk away. I ended up with a better deal with Verizon, a wold phone, and better discounts.
Ultimately, AT&T's decision benefited me and caused them to lose one customer on one line.
Grandfathered plans will go out soon. At that point some customers who were tied to a company because of an unlimited plan will find that they wasted good money being tied to an unlimited plan that their use did not really warrant, such as unlimited data on a BB.
Yes, there are people that stream loads of media and use a lot of data. It was not my experience. So they lost one customer, who is very happy elsewhere. If they give me any grief at all I will simply walk away and take all my lines to VZW, especially since the number of world phones continue increase.

Although as a customer I like your logic but its not in the realm of reality.

Its their company and short of some government regs they can do what they want.

I know this is steering even further off the Topic but I have to ask since you all are talking about the unlimited grandfathered data plan, does it say anywhere in the original contract for a users unlimited data plan that the customer is entitled to keep that plan till he decides to end the contract? Even through up-grading multiple times with different phones?

Just curious about that. Either way it doesn't affect me. I dropped the unlimited data plan a long time ago for the 200 MB plan and I never even come close to using that.

That's the problem. I haven't seen any such language anywhere. If I have missed it, I'd love to see it. I mean, I *really* would love to see it, I could use it.

As most of Europe and Asia are GSM, it does not seem possible that VZW can offer a true worldphone. My issue with unlimited plans are that "unlimited" is not truly unlimited with ATT. I cannot add tethering for my 64 GB PB without giving up my grandfathered plan and get a 4 GB plan which they refer to as unlimited. I doubt that CDMA carriers are any different. If you stream an HD movie, you can stream 4 GB easily.

VZW phones (most of them) have the SIM slot for use where the SIM is required, so you can use them overseas. Maybe I don't understand your comment about VZW not offering world phones.

Actually, I've had world phones through VZW. My 8830WE was a world phone. I will be able to use this device when I go across the pond in early 2012.
And I don't stream media on my phones.

Well... I went to the mall and got the 9900. I opened the sealed box and the deviced looked well and without any obvious defects. It was made in MEXICO 4. Keeping the unlimited data plan was not an issue at the AT&T store. I will let you know what happens when I try to use the device. Then went to the Bose store to get the Series 2 Bluetooth headset. Now I am having coffee at Starbucks. I will let you know how it went after I get home.

Blueeyes It is apparent that nothing will ever be good enough for you, I suggest that you simply give up on all technology and build a self sufficient cabin in the woods.

Data limiting, while annoying is necessary. With the continued growth of smartphone and mobile network usage the bandwith is getting sucked up faster than ever. The largest companies will feel the effects faster, and are the first to limit usage but all will eventually follow. I would prefer limits with the knowledge that it will be there when I need it, rather than have it sucked up by pimple faced teens streaming porn or movies.

As mentioned, I use my phone and Playbook heavily during the workweek and come nowhere near my limit, some are just wanting to hold on to the unlimited plan because of the principle of it, not because they actually use it.
Ya but at&t charges the same for 2GB as they did when it was unlimited. I'd buy your argument if 2GB were cheaper than unlimited. But I've never gone over 200MB, but still.
