Bold 9900 AT&T Release - Sooner than we think?
-
- Interesting that AT&T would try And require people to move off their grandfathered plan for a blackberry. Not a deal breaker for as I was going to add it as an 3rd line. Was thinking I would get the 15.00 plan. Still... It sux.

- Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorAT&T isn't the only carrier with tiered data plans. As an aside all carriers will move to this strat as smartphones are using more and more data per device hence costing the carrier more and more. Please don't forget cellular service is a business...11-05-11 11:19 PMLike 0

Compared to the torch 9800 or bold 9700...or any other non-OS 7 device...the data plan feature codes are *different* on the new models since they are H+. I can tell you that the proper H+ unlimited data plan codes do exist and yes, calling in or being in the store should be just fine11-05-11 11:20 PMLike 0 - I understand that cellular is a business, but my understanding is that a blackberry uses less data than other phones. I have an iPhone 4, but would like to have a blackberry in the stable. I need a separate phone for my small business, but am hesitant...11-05-11 11:37 PMLike 0

- My manager is the friend and had a couple on hold for me so I went to pick them up. My wife's company makes us a premiere customer so I called on my way down and if I do through my account they waive the upgrade fee and said they will give me a discount. Because the phone isn't in the system they are calling me back on Monday so I still went to the store and check it out but told him to sell them as I will get through my account, my 9700 is fine for another couple days as I think because I am buying 2 she implied one will be free so I can wait a couple days for 200 off and both activition fees. The manager said it is Blackerry on the case not Att for what it's worth.
palomartian What is with all the whinging about cases? You want a case, buy a case. I'll bet there also is no screen protector, car charger, charging pod, blue tooth earpiece... What a bunch of girls.
I am not whining but I have now owned 6 or so BlackBerry's and all came with the belt clip. I prefer that kind as I always have the POD charger and most don't work with a different case and I don't like my phone covered up. Not sure why you make such a **** of a post, as again every other BlackBerry I have bought (There flagship model) included a case and because I knew a before everyone could buy there's until tomorrow it was a heads up.
lowtrac They were on Premier earlier today. The full touch one as well, whichever that one is. I ordered the 9900 upgrade, then went in about 30 minutes later to order another and they were gone. I guess someone flipped the switch a little early.
I spoke to them a little before 3 EST time and it wasn't in there system which is why I have to wait until Monday. The iPhone you could preorder but that is there flagship phone, BlackBerry not so much. I just checked before this post and it isn't in there yet either.11-06-11 12:28 AMLike 0 - I called AT&T twice about a week ago and was assured both times that when I did use my upgrade to get the 9900 that I would be able to keep my grandfathered unlimited BB data plan. The first rep told me to do it over the phone if I wanted to be sure, the second said I could also do it in the store if I let the in-store rep know to keep my unlimited plan, and if I had any trouble with them, I could call AT&T immediately.
So yes, you should absolutely be able to keep your grandfathered data plan (as long as you're not starting a new account etc.)11-06-11 01:18 AMLike 0 -

Hey CX, thanks for warning us that companies need to make money and watching out for sneaky little critters in customer service is a necessary part of ATT's strong desire to provide the best experience. Man, those corporate insiders are always lookin out for all us ATT customers.
Sounds like buying a car.

11-06-11 02:11 AMLike 0 - Well the AT&T Hustle is on...
The 9900 is up on the website to purchase...
BUT
I have the grandfathered unlimited data, and this is what pops up:
Important Information:
The following feature(s) on your account may not be compatible with the phone you have chosen:
Data Unlimited for BlackBerry Enterprise
We will NOT remove these features from your account.
Note: To avoid excessive charges, please log into att.com/mywireless or call Customer Care at 800-331-0500 after you've activated your new device to remove your current incompatible feature(s) and to add new compatible feature(s) to your account.
I have heard that AT&T is trying to scam people to move off the unlimited account but that is not going to happen. Is there anything I can do? Is it just calling..I do not want to spend the money and have a big hassle.Last edited by ecustomer; 11-06-11 at 04:55 AM.
11-06-11 03:00 AMLike 0 - Just tried ordering on Premier....won't let me check out. Says "no plans are available for your device at this time". I want to buy it at the non-commitment pricing and it won't even let me do that. Anyone have any luck? Is it because it's too late at night and the store isn't "open"?
11-06-11 05:19 AMLike 0 - Deployment of this tactic does not suprise me, many will give it up without challenge, I understand why they are doing it however. Unfortunately it really is a small number of customers that use that much bandwidth anyways, and those people are the reason they are pushing to get rid of unlimited. I gave up my unlimited when I added tether for my Playbook and still do notcome close to my data limits, most will not have to worry about it.11-06-11 05:27 AMLike 0

11-06-11 07:00 AMLike 0 - I called AT&T twice about a week ago and was assured both times that when I did use my upgrade to get the 9900 that I would be able to keep my grandfathered unlimited BB data plan. Now, on that line I want to try out either the 9860 or the Atrix 2. If I move to a 9860 I can keep my unlimited data plan. If I go for the Atrix i will lose the unlimited data plan because I will be going to a non BB device.
So...this is how it goes...
If you have a BB on a grandfathered plan and go to another BB you can keep your unlimited data plan assuming there has not been a break in your use of that plan
If you have a BB on a grandfathered plan and go to another device that is not a BB, you will lose the unlimited data plan. This is because in the system the codes are different.
Anyone on a grandfathered plan will need to follow up with customer service after getting the device. This is particularly true for anyone getting the device from an authorised retailer or a third party supplier like Best Buy.
When I got the 9810 I did not lose my grandfathered plan...I still have that on what used to be my primary line. Today I will try out the 9860 first. But I have a feeling that I will go Atrix 2 on that line and therefore I will no longer have an unlimited data plan. I'm leaning to a non BB device on that line, and right now the one I'm most interested in is the Atrix 2.
Take care when you get the device. BB to BB you will not lose the grandfathered data plan.11-06-11 07:14 AMLike 0 - This is very true. I'm sitting on 296MB/2gig from my 9930 on VZW. There is every likelihood that I won't go near 1 gig.11-06-11 07:19 AMLike 0
- Yeah, that's cool, but how many times do you have to give up something to get something in return? If they cap it at 2GB now and that is fine for the average user then what happens next time when it gets capped at 1GB and they don't carry over your current 2GB plan that you got with your 9810? Is it gonna be OK then? Do you really think the executive officers at ATT really need any monies they are able to scrape out of slimy deals like this? Stuff like this doesn't get completely absorbed by network upgrades, maintainence, and marketing. It goes directly upstairs to the one percenters. Is that inline with all the mumbo jumbo we keep hearing about, where "ATT wants a better product for their customers"?

Data limiting, while annoying is necessary. With the continued growth of smartphone and mobile network usage the bandwith is getting sucked up faster than ever. The largest companies will feel the effects faster, and are the first to limit usage but all will eventually follow. I would prefer limits with the knowledge that it will be there when I need it, rather than have it sucked up by pimple faced teens streaming porn or movies.
As mentioned, I use my phone and Playbook heavily during the workweek and come nowhere near my limit, some are just wanting to hold on to the unlimited plan because of the principle of it, not because they actually use it.Crucial_Xtreme and anon(73368) like this.11-06-11 07:19 AMLike 2
